I recently replaced rear drum brakes on my 1997 stratus and during assembly noticed the adjusting mechanism and plug on backing plate but could not tell if this acts as a self adjuster or is it completely manual?
It should be self adjusting (when u back up and apply the brakes, it adjusts ), and can also be manually adjusted (thru removal of the rubber plug on the backing plate). The adjuster (star wheel) can seize due to rusting and it won't adjust automatically or manually. Whenever u do a brake job, spray it w/ wd-40 and turn it back and forth several times to make sure it is free, then I put a dab of high temp. brake grease on the threads (only a small amount, as u don't want it dropping off and getting on the brake shoes).

Battery replaced on 2001 grand dodge caravan now radio wont or come on
U will need to enter the radio anti theft code, this lock out was triggered by the loss of voltage to the radio during the battery change, this code is unique to each radio and cam in the owners information packet when the cat was sold new.

need to change water pump on 97 dodge stratus 2.5
My condolences. It's located on the passenger end of the engine, under the timing covers. You have to remove the timing belt to replace it. It's a knuckle-busting job; no room to work in there, and you've got to remove a LOT of parts just to get to it. My '96 also had a corroded feed tube, so I ended up having to take apart just about the entire other end of the engine as well! If you can afford it, it's well worth leaving that job to a professional, especially if you haven't done a timing belt before.
BTW, if you do go ahead with it, here's a hint that I found the hard way. Take off the intake manifold first - it'll save you hours of trying to remove the power steering bracket bolts! (That's not as frivolous as it might sound - you have to remove the manifold just to change the spark plugs on that car!)

how to replace lower control arm w/ balljoint on 97 dodge stratus?
Jack and stand your car on side to replace the arm, remove wheel,it might be easier to remove the brake rotor and caliper out of the way, now there is a shock tower that the axle goes through, remove the lower bolt, next remove the ball jiont nut and cutter pin, hit the spindle area of ball jiont, carefull to not hit the threads, remove the nut that holds the sway bar link to arm, this one can be very stuburn, remove the bolt that holds the arm to kframe, and pry the arm out, reverse the procedure.highly recommend penatrating fluid to all nuts and bolts days prior to teardown to sink in the areas. GOD LUCK, RDJRP

check engine codes for a 1997 stratus the codes coming up are 12 31 and 55
12 Recently disconnected the battery (always stored)
55 End test.
CODE 31... depending on the model, code 31 can refer to two different systems. Please choose from one of the above links for specific information
on each system.
Wastegate Solenoid Circuit Error
The ECM regulates turbocharger boost by
opening and closing the "wastegate"
as necessary. (The wastegate is a vacuum operated bypass valve that
limits the ability of the turbo to provide boost.) The Wastegate
Solenoid regulates the vacuum supply to the wastegate for proper
operation.
Fault Code Description

Common Problems
Gear Position Switch (PRNDL)
Error
The Gear Position switch
tells the ECM
which position the shifter is in. The ECM will use this
information to inhibit starter operation, change the transmission shift
pattern as necessary, and provide the information for the electronic
shift indicator display on the dash.
Fault Code Description
Symptoms
Common Problems
A maladjusted or failed Gear Position switch would be the most common
cause for a code 31
Hope helps with this (remember rated this post).
