1997 Gmc sierra 1500 350 vortec wont start
The distributor is out of time. Bring it back to #1 TDC and try to drop it in. If it doesn\'t go in all the way, it\'s because the oil pump drive isn\'t lining up. All you do is have someone "tap" the engine over in very short bursts. Eventually it will line itself up and drop in. Unfortunately, even if you get it started, you will probably get a check engine light. If you do, you will need access to a scanner that will display data. Look for a data line called "CMP Retard", make small adjustments to the timing and snap the throttle. Get this reading as close as possible to 0. I believe the tolerance is +/- 2 degrees. If you can\'t get it close enough, the distributor is still out a tooth. ALSO, keep in mind that the air filter must be in place. Without the inlet hoses, the mass airflow sensor cannot read properly.Good luck!

Tempeture gage goes up and down and less heat
You may have a weak water pump, bad thermostat, or an air locked system. Flushing the system is the best remedy first to pin point things. Then test the thermostat by taking it out and putting it in a pot of boiling water. If the thermostat opens, it is ok, if it doesn't it's bad. Let me know if this helps, and after you try that, if it doesnt work we can run further tests let me know
Backing light won't work
Change the bulb maybe? If this doesnt work, have a look at he contacts, since its a 97 the contacts could be rusted. Just get a piece of sandpaper and clean it up, should be good.If this doesnt work, may check the voltage of the wiring loom.Hope this helps.Owen.

have you tried giving it a jump? you probably have either a bad altenator or starter. both are cheap parts and quite easy to fix
