some chevys have an 202 or 203 transfercase.most commond in newer trucks is the 203 which is a gear to gear transfercase,203 is chain drve and very rare anymore,so ck and see which one you have, because their is a 205 gear driven, the most common problem with all transfercases is when they pop out of gear,is a bad shifting fork,or a bad pilot ,or through out bearing not putting pressure on gear.hope this is helpful.

There can be a series of problems with you truck based on the age and mileage. The idler are is usuallythe first to go. Check the tie rod ends. The ball joints especially the uppers fail. Control arm bushings . Power steering box, depending on the size tires you have been using will create stress cracks on the frame where it bolts up. My suggestion would be to bring it to a reputable shop and get an estimate. You are not obligated to get it fixed there. In my shop, I do not charge for looking at a vehicle, as long as I am not taking things apart. Get a second estimate if you aren't comfortable with the first one. Independent shops which are well kept, are more apt to be straight up with you and not try to sell you what you don't need. Check with BBB for a history of complaints. Good luck.

I would suggest going to a salvage yard and purchase the wiring harness off a same make, model, year truck. You will drive yourself NUTZ trying to figure out the diagram . . . Take pictures before, during and after they are removing the harness. Should help in re-assemble... ALWAYS unplug, never cut the wires...
