2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I have a 2004 gmc serra the front brakes work fine
Drum brakes? Maybe they need to be adjusted manually. When people don't set the parking brake the rears never get adjusted. Also with brake dust and all at times the adjusters get stiff and won't turn easliy enough for the self adjuster to do anything.
There should be a rectangle rubber plug on the backing plate.
Jack up and support the truck so the wheels are off the ground and the parking brake is off and in neutral.
Through the hole that the rubber plug was in you will see a star wheel. There are tools for doing this but at times a flat screwdriver works. Deepending on the side you're on, righty could be loosy and vice versa.
Turn that star wheel a few clicks and rotate the wheel until you feel a slight drag. Careful, if you go too far sometimes that star wheel is hard to go back because of the lever that turns it when the parking brake is set (another screwdriver to lightly push it while turning the star wheel back works).
One you have done that to both wheels push on the brake pedal a couple times. That will center the brake shoes and then check for a slight drag again.
If its rear disc then you may have a problem with the proportioning valve.
What makes a front end shake on a 2004 GMC Sierra
FRONT END SHIMMY AND SHAKING COULD HAVE A TIRE OUT OF BALANCELOOSE OR WORN WHEEL BEARINGS, WORN OUT BALL JOINTS,WORN OUT TIE ROD ENDS, FRONT END NEED ALIGNMENT.BRAKE ROTOR WORN OUT OR WARPED, MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE FRONT END TO SHAKE SHIMMY.
When outside is real hot,
Your blend air door actuators go through a "self-test" process each time the ignition is switched off then back on again. They will swing to full hot, then Full cold, then settle to wherever you have them set by the control. What is happening is that the actuator for the passenger side is getting stuck during the self test. If you check for fault codes in your climate control system, you will most likely find a fault code that will state that there is a problem with the actuator or the blend-air door. If it corrects istself at times, it is most likely NOT a broken blend air door.
The unfortunate thing here is that the instrument panel must be removed to acess the actuator for the passenger side. The one for the driver side is much easier. They are both the same part, the difference is how easy they are to get to.
The actuator itself has a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $263.56
The standard labor time to replace the left side is 0.7 hours and the time required to replace the right side is 5.4 hours. It is NOT going to be cheap any way you do it. However, you can save a BUNCH if you want to do it yourself. If so, I can provide directions on how to get to the thing. Let me know.
Oil gage goes to 80
Sounds like either a defective sender unit or guage in the cluster. Another slim possibility is the wire is shorting to the engine causing a false signal from the wire.
The heater dont work on
it sounds like a heater door actuator is not allowing the door to swing into the heat position...as for the temp gauge there is a recall for a bad insterment cluster for that truck...a circuit board is cracked in the dash not allowing the gauge to function...call a GM dealer to get more info on this recall...the heat problem can be easliy fixed at any qualified service station
Ac fan switch only works on high. How do you
HI this probably isn't the switch its the blower motor resistor. The resistor is located in the heater box by the blower motor. You will need to remove the lower trim from under the passenger side dash. Unplug the electrical connectors from the resistor and then you will remove two screws holing it the can be either 8mm or 5.5mm I have run into both. just pull down and towards you to remove the resistor it may stick at first dur to the gasket material. Good luck
The computer analyzes that I
its probably an in tank filter. look for accsess to fuel pump
through a plate in the boot or under the back seat
some cars theres need to drop the fuel tank to accsess the
pump/filter assy
