I need a flame arrestor for my 1986 GMC K1500 305V8. It goes inside the air filter unit between the carb. & the air filter so that if the engine backfires it will not catch the air filter on fire.

there is a site www.knfilters.com that make such equipment for v8 engines in particular K&N 59-3364 would probably fit besides that go google and type in--- flame arrestors for air inlet--- and there is plenty of information on uses types etc the idea is to have the ignition firing order right, the ignition timing correct (12 degrees btdc for chev)and the correct air/fuel mixture ratio and back firing will not occur unless you have a really rad**cal cam that is not correctly timed and the engine rpms are too low for the cam

Saturn headlights not working

Check your dimmer switch. When a dimmer switch goes bad only one set of lights work being either the bright or the low beams.

I have a 1986 gmc k1500 with 4wd and im replacing the front bearings on both sides and there are warn hubs on fornt but when i take it off there is a 6 **** nut and non of the factroy tools at the par

After you remove the hub you then need to remove the inner gear and spring, this is done by removing the ring, look at the front edge of the gear, you will see ring, use small screw driver or pick to remove, it just sits in groove to hold hub gear and spring in place, when ring is removed then slide the rest of the parts to hub out, note some model will have a small star screw holding center gear in, remove screw and pull center gear out, Next you will then see nut , these nuts are not too tight, you can use a chisel and hammer to break free if you do not have socket, after the first nut is removed you will then see a washer that has many small holes, that washer is a lock washer, it locks next washer in place , remove washer and you will be at last nut, take a look at the nut , the axle tube will have a slot, make sure there is not a slide pin going into nut to lock it, some models have a lock key, if you do then remove it with a magnet, you may need to wiggle nut to release pressure off the key, if you do not have the lock key then just remove the nut, take note the inner nut has a pin on the front face, when installing you will need to line it up to get lock washer on, here is a diagram to help you , good day and again these nuts are not tightened alot or bearing damage will occur just snug and chisel and hammer will loosen them. please let me know the outcome.9_2_2012_6_30_29_pm.gif

My 87 GMC 4x4 pickup while running seems like it

I bet you have a electric fuel pump?? If so, I'd be looking for a loose or broken wire/ bad connection first.
Next check the fuel filter, especially if it's not been changed.
You can also add some lucas (Not just Dry Gas) to the fuel tank with a mix of fresh gas - as it may be a piece of dirt lodging in the injector.
best regards

Have replaced starter 4 times

On some models of general motors starter shims are required to maintain
the recommended clearance between the starter and flywheel.
If not, then the starter will hang on the flywheel after motor is started and
damage it (The teeth are bottoming out when this occurs). They sell starter shims at
the auto parts store.
Hope this helps.

1996 gmc two prong plug in tank melted is there

Hi

yes this is dangerous, any heated wires so close to the fuel can be deadly. if they are melting then either the wrong fuse size has been used and this is overcharging the thinkness of the wires, thin wires require low amp fusees where as thicker wire higher fuses. the other issue is there is a possibility of overcharging or two wires contacting each other, this coaul destroy all the electric on the car and would be very costly to repair, I would be looking at wires contacting either each other or the car body "red" positives touching the metal work.

How can I check for a fuel leak in the passager

Each tank hold about 17gal. For the leak, first a thorough visual inspection. If no leak is found remove the plastic shield. And give it one more good lookin over. If STILL no leak is found, you can purchase a UV dye additive that will highlight the point of puncture under a UV light.

I started engine ran for 30sec it shut off there

at the starter there are several wires that go to the big post of the starter. look to see if any of these will come apart when pulling on them. these are fusible links. Also see if any of those wires have touched the exhaust system. you can splice them back together. i hope this helps.

My 1986 GMC Sierra Classic K1500 4x4 350 engine

The starter should have come with shims. You may have to adjust the new starter with the shims, so that the bendix, starter drive, meshes properly with the ring gear.
As long as the battery is fully charged it should turn the engine over.
Please let me know what you find.

My truck wont run. Why?

If it is flooding it might be a fuel pressure regulator, when it floods hold the pedal to the floor until it revs up, this should clear out the gas and get it started but the problem will remain until the fuel pressure regulator is checked or replace it is located at the beginning of the fuel rail on top of the motor it has a vacuum line going to it. Replace the vacuum hose first also if it appears to be wet with gas replace it. If it checks out ok or problem persists pull out a spark plug and have an assistant turn over the motor as you observe the spark it should be a bright purple or blue color if not it is a weak ignition issue repalce the plug wires and plugs along with the distributor cap and rotor. If problem still persists replace the O2 sensor and ignition module.
