what kind of coolant does a pontiac grand am 2003 take?
I found out the hard way -this is soooo important. It is imperative that you use the orange dexcool. it is designed to withstand certain temperature. If not used properly - it could start a domino effect thats very costly. T.M.I One time i let my boyfriend check my oil- simple enough right? like most people do, the water level was checked as well. he filled reserve w/ plain water all the way to the top ( instead of where coolant level line is) The results were over heating (plus found out later after melted heads) that the threads to reserve cap were stripped. which is what lead to lake of pressure in coolant line.

Can low steering fluid cause mechanical problems
Problems associated with low power steering fluid…
Hard Vehicle Steering
A low power steering fluid level can often times cause a vehicle's steering to become hard and labored. Adequate amounts of power steering fluid are necessary to enable a vehicle's power steering system to function and operate at optimum levels. A lack of power steering fluid in a vehicle's power steering system reduces the amount of hydraulic fluid pressure necessary to efficiently operating the various parts of the entire power steering system. Power steering fluid supplies the fluid force needed to operate the power steering gears and to enable power steering gearbox operation. Low power steering fluid levels reduce this hydraulic pressure, which commonly results in hard vehicle steering.
Pump Noise
It is very common for a low power steering fluid level to cause significant power steering pump noise. An adequate amount of power steering fluid is required to ensure the proper function and longevity of a power steering pump unit, which is a belt-driven pump responsible for housing and circulating power steering pump fluid. A low level of power steering fluid results in increased power steering pump friction, heat, and wear, all of which can significantly reduce the operational life of the power steering pump while at the same time cause excessive power steering pump noise.
Fluid Boiling
Many times a low power steering fluid level can result in excessive heating of power steering fluid, a condition that can seriously degrade the fluid and cause it to boil. A low power steering fluid level results in less available fluid to both lubricate and cool a power steering pump unit. A lack of power steering pump lubrication and cooling leads to excessive heat being generated within the power steering pump unit itself, a condition that translates into the available level of power steering fluid becoming super-heated and degraded. When this happens it is common for the power steering fluid to boil and lose all of its lubricating and heat-reducing capabilities.
Gearbox Wear
The power steering gearbox is a set of gears within a vehicle's power steering system designed to facilitate movement of a vehicle's front wheels. The power steering gearbox is connected to the power steering pump by hydraulic fluid lines that deliver a constant supply of power steering fluid to the power steering gearbox. A low power steering fluid level, especially a chronic and severe low power steering fluid level, can lead to increased friction and wear within the power steering gearbox assembly, a condition that can significantly shorten the operational life of the power steering gearbox and negatively affect its operation

My sunroof on my 2003 Grand am wont close. What can I do?
Check the fuse in the fuse box. If that is good then you might want to look into getting a new sunroof motor. The gears in the motor are plastic so one of them may have some broken or missing teeth. If you can hear the motor run then replace the motor. Also, maybe the switch is bad. Check all of the connections and make sure that they are seated right.

how do you remove a starter from 2003 3.4 grand am
On the 3.4-liter model,
the starter is instead mounted at the lower-rear of the engine against the
flywheel.
The procedure to remove the starter is as follows:--1) First of all lift the hood on the Grand Am and locate the car's
battery. Identify the negative post on the battery by its minus symbol on the
top of the battery case. Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the cable
from its post on the battery. 2) Make sure the cable's not contacting any other
metal or the engine.
3) Then
Open the driver door and fully engage the Grand Am's emergency brake. Raise the
car at its jacking point on the front passenger side using a car jack. The
bottom of the tire should visibly measure eight to nine inches from the ground.
4) Position a jack stand slightly left of the car jack.
Remove the locking pin from the support arm on the jack stand. Raise the
support arm to accommodate the height of the car jack. 5) Return the locking pin
to the support arm of the jack stand to secure its height. Slightly lower the
car jack so that the jack stand can bear some of the car's weight. Do not
remove the car jack. Rock the car back and forward slightly to assure it will
remain stable.6)Return the locking pin to the support arm of
the jack stand to secure its height. Slightly lower the car jack so that the
jack stand can bear some of the car's weight. Do not remove the car jack. Rock
the car back and forward slightly to assure it will remain stable.7) Slide
under the Grand Am head first and locate the starter. It will resemble a large
elongated golden or black capsule. The solenoid will attach directly to it and
will resemble a smaller capsule as well.8)Remove the bolts securing the
flywheel cover with a socket wrench in your 3.4L Grand Am. Lower the cover from its
mounting position on the flywheel. Place the cover and its securing bolt to the
side of the work area.9) Remove the starter's retaining bolts at its
base where it mounts against the engine. Start with the top bolt. Before you
remove the lower starter bolt, support the starter with your free hand. Remove
the bolt and place both hands on the starter as you lower it away from its
mounting position.
Thanks. you can rate this solution
and show your appreciation.

2003 pontiac grand am. When sitting in driveway ideling, the engine revs really high then really low. Can anyone suggest why?
It can be issue
with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem. There
are many other possibilities causing these idle issues. Engine idles rough. There
are few help links with solutions to troubleshoot such idle issues. I

my a/c bfc fuse blows and then the car wont start.it just turns over.i replace that fuse and car starts
I just replaced the blower motor and resistor in my daughters 02 Grand Am 3.4l. Not sure if it's a total fix but it's a start to the elimination process and only cost $40 for both parts. Will repost if it's not solved. Hope this helps someone in the meantime looking for answers.

The electric seat on the driver side won't move. How can I manually move the seat. I am having the seat upholstered and they can't get to the bolt holding the drivers seat because the bolt is under the rail the seat slides on. The seat is currently in the far back position and needs to move forward so the bolt will be exposed for removal.
this is all i could find, try this link out... How to move seats manually on Chevy silverado Google Search
