1998 Passat 110,000 miles. Just purchased by me, and now the oil light comes on and blinks while driving along with the brake light. Mechanic has changed the oil twice, used synthetic, did a motor flush to clean for sluged oil, checked for leaks, checked alternator, checked the electrical system. Everything checks out (as in clean oil, electrician said it could be in the intrument panel). Any suggestions what to check next? Mechanic thinks it is okay to drive as the engine has oil pressure.
Thanks!
Is the ABS light on as well? If you have ABS and the light is on (like in Guest's comment) is it probably the ABS Control Module. You should have someone read the code to see if you get ABS as one of the issues. Rather than spending a fortune with the dealer or having a non dealer replacement, check out ModuleMasters.com. You take the the unit off (easy and OK to drive without it, you'll just have no
ABS - which you probably don't have now!), mail it out to them, they rebuild it for $200, send it back and you install it, problem solved. They have step by step photo instructions on their site. A mechanic I use for diagnosis and difficult repairs initially wanted to replace the instrument cluster and then talked about replacing it with a new unit. I went online, read about the issue and fixed it myself. I let him know about it and now he has done it three times the same way with great results.

My windscreen wipers stop halfway up, and I have to pull them by hand to get them to go the full lenght. Once they reach "the full lenght" it starts pulling them back, but very slowly and I have to "help" it to get it going all the way.
It's like the windscreen wiper engine is struggling.
I've checked the bolts that I can see in the engine room, and they all look okay.
I find it hard to belive that the windscreen wiper engine is worn out, even if the car has done 450k km.

I have a Climatronic on a 1999 V6 Passat. AC works off and on. Same for the blower if I put on ECON. The AC works fine after it comes on.
VW Climatronic system works off and on when A/C refrigerant R134a quantity is low.
First of all you need to check & charge the A/C system with refrigerant R134a.
The A/C refrigerant R 134a quantity = 700 ... 750 grames.
This A/C failure is due to low refrigerant pressure & quantity.
Low pressure service connector
High pressure service connector
If the problem still occurs after A/C system refrigerant R134a has been charged, you need to access the Climatronic Module using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com, Bosch KTS, Texa, ...) connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's memored. DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. Then you will bu full informed about the root cause of the problem, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces and reset the Climatronic Module.
Let me know please about found DTC codes.

a circle with a triangle sign appears on the dashboard appears
ASR - Acceleration Skid Control system.
When ASR warning light blinking the system is activated itself for car acceleration skid control.
For today's typical high-torque engines, traction control (ASR) can increase both comfort and safety, particularly when driving on slippery roads or surfaces offering differing levels of grip. Traction control permits smooth starting and acceleration through the full speed range without wheel-spin or fishtailing.
ASR only operates in conjunction with the electronic accelerator (E-gas) and uses components of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). If one wheel suddenly begins to rotate faster than the others (slip), ASR intervenes in the engine management system and reduces power until the wheel stops spinning.
The ASR system represents a further contribution to active safety as it maintains vehicle traction and directional stability throughout the acceleration phase at any speed. In addition, it reduces tyre wear. Activation of the ASR system is indicated by a flashing indicator lamp in the instrument cluster.
The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. If the ESP lights on the dashboard permanently the ESP system is faulty. You must access the ESP Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.

There is a plastic cord hanging down near the front of my car, almost near the front lights. It's been dragging on the ground so I've been pushing it back up so it doesn't drag anymore and get damaged. There is some sort of "plug" at the end and I'm wondering if something came unplugged. However, I have no idea where it would plug in to or if it plugs into something. The "plug" looking part seems to be made out of plastic.
If everything is in working order, then it is most likely a fog light harness plug for fog lights ,that where not an option on your car,the harness has just came loose from what held it up and secure.
