Volks jetta deisel 1997 won't start
DEPENDING HOW COLD OUT IT IS DIESELS DONT LIKE TO START IN COLD WHEATHER UNLESS THE GLOW PLUGS ARE WARM THIS IS THE REASON FOR PLUGGING DIESELS IN MOST WONT START IF ITS COLD OUT IF ITS NOT THAT COLD OUT IT SHOULD START IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY POWER MAYBE THERES NOT ENOUGH FUEL GETTING UP TO THE THROTTLE BODY HOPE THIS HELPS

This year vehicle has a coil on the firewall with a built in ignition module and they pack up when old ,take it off you will find the coil housing is split only course is to renew the whole unit ,not expensive about 70 euros from auto factor for a agni or magnet marrelli replacement unit

97 jetta gt 2.0 overheating
if the coolant is full and all the air is bleed out of the cooling system make sure the cooling fans turn on if not then check the relays and fuses and wiring. and if thats ok then use a block tester to check for a combustion leak. you can get a block tester for a parts store you simply install it in place of the radiator cap and run the car the chemical in the block tester will change color from blue to yellow if there is a combustion leak.

When a radiator starts leaking,the only fix is to replace.
'97 Jetta rear seat back doesn't fold.
find bolts under the front of the seat itself. remove this seat and you will see 2 more bolts at the base of the back of seat part. remove these and normally the back part lift off some retaining clips. Replace in reverse order
Turn up idle on a 97 jetta
you can't its computer controlled but i'll bet if you look at the part that the throttle cable goes to and where the stop is its cracked or broken off my freinds is the same way we put a tie wrap on it to get the idle up

I'm not etirely sure what you mean by "out of timing" but I'll guess that you mean it's sputtering, misfiring, and running rough (when you can get it to start). If that's the case you likely have a fouled spark plug or a bad ignition coil (very common). You need to check with a VAG-COM diagnostic tool. You can borrow one for free from many autoparts stores (like Autozone). It will tell you exactly which cylinder isn't firing correctly.

need more info but could be the battery, starter, or ignition switch(if you turn the key and its not even cranking but you still have lights)
