After running for 10 minutes

This vw has two fuel pumps one low pressure pump in tank and one high pressure pump under car make sure both are getting power and both are pumping, next try switching out the coolant temp sensor for the computer. The old vw cis fuel injection systems are very complex, so if you don't know what it is don't touch it get a book or better on old vw mechanic! ; )

reverse is the highest gear in any trans 1st gear is the next . The problem you have is worn facings to the clutch packs that apply pressure to move the car.Changing the trans fluid is the worst thing to do on any transmission with worn facings. The particles that are worn flow with the fluid making the trans fluid more dense that will fill the voids in the clutch packs giving the trans better shifting. It does not shgift the greatest but if drained and filled with fresh fluid it will slip such as yours does now. I assume you have the fluid topped off so do this. Add a can of trans medic or equivalent to make the trans shift smoother. If it does help you do need to rebuild the transmission with new clutches

I have a 1988 vw

Make sure that as the top is folding backwards, the soft part of the top is not getting stuck in the hinges or between the support bars. If it is folding improperly, there might be a piece of the top that is keeping the rest from folding as it is supposed to. My father had this problem on his Mazda Miata once, but resolved it by paying closer attention when he opened it (he usually opened it from the driver's side, but once it started getting stuck, he had to walk around the car and make sure the passenger side was folding properly, too).
If it is not part of the soft top that is jamming you up, check the hinges all the way around. If one of them has a loose screw or broken rivit or something, that can jam it up too. Also, while the top is open, check the storage space that the top folds into -- if there is something in there, it could block the top from having the space to fold into.

Oil lights beepes on and

It sounds like either too little oil or very low oil pressure. I would immediately check the oil. If the oil is low, put the proper amount in. Be careful not to overfill it, though. Go slowly, putting a little in and then checking the dipstick, wiping it with a clean rag each time. If the oil level is OK and it still has the same issues, there may be a more serious problem that is causing low engine oil pressure. A technician will have to diagnose it from there because there are a few different things that could cause this.

I hope that this information helps!
