2002 Mazda MPV - Page 8 Questions & Answers
MPB 2003 ran out of gas. Put in two gallons.
go to the back of the car and have someone turn the ignition you should hear the fuel pump running. If not 1st check the fuse next you may need a auto electrician to diagnose or confirm if the pump has burnt. Never let your cars with in tank pumps run out of fuel for it's what keeps them cool. No fuel lots of heat burnt pump.
Mazda mvp 03 spark plugs
no the bad oxygen sensor never affects misfire it affects only the air/fuel mixture
those are causing misfire (a bad coil, ignition module, distributor pickup, crank sensor,).
and i doubt the crank sensor cuz computer says sensor even if it said to be o2 but no its the crank one its ok if computer fault
i hope my answer was useful

Here is the procedure for allowing system to run each of the separate mode tests.
EGR : Start engine and warm up completely. Make sure all electrical loads are off (A/C headlights, blower fan, and rear window defroster) Accelerate to between 49-57 mph and hold a very steady speed for 1 minute. Decelerate to a stop and turn off engine.
EVAP : Ensure Baro pressure is 21.3 inHg or higher, Intake air temp is 41-95 'F, Fuel tank level is between 25-75%, Battery voltage is 10.9-14.6 volts. Start engine and idle for more than 10 seconds then turn key to off. Leave vehicle to sit for 5 hours or more. Start engine and race to 3500 rpm to warm up completely the idle for more than 15 minutes. Accelerate and then drive vehicle at very steady speed between 40-50 mph for more than 5 minutes. Stop vehicle and turn key to off. Leave vehicle undisturbed for 20 minutes or more.
When I say steady speed in the above, try to keep dead on to a set speed to help ensure the test is run. Especially for the EGR as this is when the test will be performed and if speed/rpm is not very steady then test will not be performed. The Evap test will be ran during that final 20 minute or more sitting period (or should be anyway).
Cylinders #4 and #6 not firing even after changing
The coil on plug style ignition coils have been a very weak spot in the 2002 and later MPV. Moisture can get inside and short out the internal workings. Also make sure that you have the correct electrical connectors plugged into the correct ignition coil. It is possible to accidently swap the connectors for #4 and #6 ignition coils and the harness still looks like it is routed correctly.

The thermostat is located in the flange where the LOWER radiator hose attaches to the engine. Three bolts secure it to an odd looking plastic pipe assembly.
Is the #3 sparkplug in the front or back
The #3 cylinder is in the rear bank of cylinders below the windshield. They are numbered from front of engine (by belts) 1 2 3. The front three cylinders nearest the radiator are numbered front front of engine (by belts) 4 5 6.
My fans stay on all
on most vehicles there is a sensor screwed into the head which sends a signal to a relay which puts power to the fans. there is not a "switch" you can turn off. look in your manual for location of the fuse panel. as a 1st step, read the legend inside the panel lid, find the fan relay and replace it. if that does not do it then you are going to need to buy and replace the sensor. if that does not do it then you are going to a dealer for an electric system diagnosis by someone who works on this car all the time.
I lost power to my
If you have a volt meter, check that there is power coming in to the plug at the back of the radio. I suspect from what you have described that you will find there is power at the plug.
Most radios have a fuse on the back of them. Check that one too, if it's not that, then I am afraid to say your radio is faulty.

Sounds like a thermostat problem. Would make the car run rich to try and heat up and reduce your gas mileage if so.
Airbag warning lights flashing on dashboard of
there are a quite a few problems associated with the airbag light flashing. The light will flash in long and short frequencies, this is a diagnostic code, e.g. two long flashes followed by six short flashes equals code 26, which is clockspring. Other codes are: 46 and 47 connector under seat, 3 power supply etc.

On the bottom of the transmission will be a transmission pan plater with maybe 8 or 10 bolts holding it on. The transmission filter us underneath that plate. When you refill the transmission you will want to use Dexron/Mercon IV fluid.
To change the filter (and gasket) they should come as a set.
- Put a pan under the transmission as you will loose two quarts maybe a little more.
- Loosen the bolts starting with the bolt farthest from you working your way evenly back.
- Soon fluid will start to drain. Let it drain as it goes. Give it a little time before continuing.
- When you get to the last bolt or two hold the pan firm while removing the bolts and lean the pan away from you and empty the pan of all fluid.
- Now remove the two screws holding the transmission filter in place and pull down on the filter.
- Now you want to clean the inside of the pan real good. Brake clean to soap and water will work.
- Dry the pan real real good. Should be almost shinny.
- Now place the new filter where the old one was removed from.
- Now line the gasket up on the pan and set it against the transmission.
- Get a start on a few of the bolts so the pan will stay put.
- As you tighten the rest of the bolts you will want to tighten cross ways. Like you would a wheel.
- Now you will want to refill the transmission fluid to proper level. Your manual will tell you the exact amount but for this car two quarts would be a good starting point.
- Now start the car and look underneath the car and inspect for leaks.
- Now put your foot on the brake and just shift your vehicle into every gear a couple times. All the way down then all the way up. This fills the pockets.
- Now put the emergency brake on and put the car into neutral and check the fluid. Adjust accordingly. Mind the area on the dipstick for a "cold check" as the transmission will still be cool at this point.

Aiming headlights
The aiming of headlights is strictly governed by the country or state you reside in and is covered by the road ordinance in force there. Take your vehicle to an authorised center that can adjust your headlights and supply you with proof that the work has been carried out according to the requisite regulations. You will save yourself a lot of bother and prevent possible legal problems.
