Check your gas cap. This is the most likely culprit believe it or not. If it fits loosly, it will throw up an error code indicating an open gasoline system problem. My wife does this all the time when filling her tank while car running... duh.

Generally speaking it has some red on it normally the negative cable has black on it. The negative (-) cable goes to the engine block or grounded on the frame. The positive (+) cable goes to the fuse block, or the starter. This is the general case for all cars.

check belt alighnment and check pulleys for damage sounds like u have a pulley with a sharp edge on it feel them carefully all the way around remove belt first and remove keys from ignition for safety

anything is possible when it invovles cars some engines have both sensors at rear of engine it is possible for unit to fail could bee wiring issues later engines had seperate sensors on front of eng highly unlikly in this instance they wood both fail together

damage will range from no start too running poorly too bent vavles if its only a tooth out u should be fine any more could result in major engine damage

You need to bring it to any reputable mechanic and he should have a diagnostic tool he will plug into your car and will be able to tell you the reason why it's on. Make sure you ask him for the code and write it down. Then go online and search the code. Make sure he is not lying to you about the issue.

In addition to this site I have heard that you can remove the shifter boot and plate for easier access to the fill hole.
