It could be the radiator is bad. There is a plug located on the bottom of the radiator. Unscrew the plug and let the fluid drain, you should be able to see if there is rust or gunk in the water/antifreeze. You are correct in assuming the proportioning valve, but it may not be bad,if it detects, loss of fluid pressure,it will shut down those brake lines.Try bleeding the master cylinder, then the wheels, and you may have to do it a couple of times, this will allow the proportioning valve allow the wheels with fluid pressure,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you,
Replacing the starter
First you will need to disconnect the battery cables to ensure you do not short the starter cables while changing it(i have forgotten and it is shocking). next remove the nuts holding the power wires to the starter, there are two wires, a small and a large. next remove the bolts to the block and remove the starter. make sure you get all the bolts out before you try to remove the starter. if you get alot of resistance while trying to remove it dont get a bigger pry bar. the installation is the reverse of removal. make sure if there are any shims between the starter and the block you reinstall them on the new starter.
Mazda mpv 96 problems with the leveler
Expensive to fix. There is a lever behind the spare tire which senses load and accordingly turns on the air compressor to pump up the rear shocks. The problem I've had is the one rear shock air line will develop a leak by rubbing against the shock cover which causes the system to continually bleed down. These shocks are about $400.00each to replace new.

Overheats
1. The radiator fan relay switch may be bad. Replace the little black box in the fusebox under the hood.
The socket is marked "Radiator fan".
2. The radiator fan may not be spinning. The motor may be disconnected or burned-out.
3. The lower radiator hose may be collapsing. It should be "firm" and not "squishy". There is a metal stent lining the hose. It may have rusted and collapsed.
