2000 GMC Safari AWD Suddenly won't start

2000 GMC Safari AWD, I have never had one problem with this van till now It was running fine as usual, then took a short trip to the store came home for an hour went back out and it was like it was starving on gas and .It had been raining for a week. I tried severaltimes and it would just crank, but not start. after several key off & on sequences it would start, stumble, then run fine. Was told it could be the Fuel Pump in Tank, but you can hear it working and I can flood it while cranking, Still won't start without a lot of cranking on wet morning, so they replaced my Igniton Module. Still won't start it has been wet and cold every day on the Oregon Coast.. What is up???? I want to avoid this similiar scenario as this gut...

2000 GMC Safari, For the past year I have been throwing $ and parts at this vehicle. Last winter, It would start but run like it was starving on gas and finally ran fine when warm. When it rained over night it would just crank, but not start. after several key off & on sequences it would start, stumble, then run fine. Was told to replace the Fuel Pump in Tank, $488.00 later it still did the overnitght/rain thing. Was then told the Fuel Pressure Regulator was bad. So, got a FPR installed and while they were in there they found most of my Injector hoses were leaking/cracked, replaced them and leaking A/C compressor, $1500.00. Still won't start without a lot of cranking on wet morning, so they replaced my Igniton Module. Still won't start on damp mornings without cranking much. Has 74,000 miles on it. Now they want to replace my distributor and Computer..... The dealer says $90.00 per hour and they will try to diagnose it. Occasionally while driving the engine will just stop. restsart and it runs fine, also occasionally the ABS/Brake light comes on so I just stop, turn off, start again and it is fine.
PLEASE ADVISE

I have a 2002 Safari with around 220k miles. I went out of town for several days and when I came back it would not start. I eventually got it started after about an hour. This happened again when I did not driver it for a week. This time I could not start the van. The fuel pump was spinning and it was getting gas. I took off the engine couling inside the van and inspected the rotor and cap. They were completely corroded. I put in an after market set for less than 30 bucks and the van started right up. I plan on getting the wires and plugs replaced but I don't think I want to do that myself due to tight access. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my 2000 GMC Safari two years ago....drove me CRAZY!

Sometimes it would start right up...other times it just would crank and not start.

It turned out to be a cracked coil....I found it by using a spray bottle with water in it, and "misting" the engine, at night....with the engine running. (On a night when it DID start!)

It took a while, but finally the hairline crack let in some water and the electrical short showed by a spark coming out of the coil.

I replaced the coil with a new one, and it has never "not started" since.

Evidently the coil cover gets brittle and develops small, hairline cracks due to heat from the engine.

Oh...by the way....I tested the coil it showed that it was fine!....but it took the "misting" at night...in the dark...to find the spark "leaking" out.

There was actually a recall for this. Go to your local GMdealer and have them check your VIN for a recall. If not under recall get out of there its easy to repair yourself don't let'em fool you.Remove the front pads caliper and rotors. Locate the abs sensor mounted to the wheelbearing assembly by a small socket head cap screw (Allen wrench). Removethe bolt and softly gently/wiggle the abs sensor around until it pops upout of the hole. some will break, which is why it wouldbe nice if the recall applies to your vehicle that way if they break gm replaces. Once you get both sides removed, clean themounting surface of all rust or build up with w-d 40 and small steel toothbrush then wipe off excess with clean rag and mild soap and warm water, dry completely make sure no spray residue exist on parts, Next apply a thin layer of lubricant grease to preventfuture rusting and reassemble. The rust build up under the sensor is causing the angle to change resultingin inaccurate wheel speed readings in the abs module your abs module will interprets this asa wheel is either slipping or skidding and applies your abs. This should make you happy with no more irritations. Please rate me. If you need further assistance you can always ask me. Good luck with this.

I have a 2000 gmc safari. I am trying to change

I have a 2000 gmc safari. I am trying to change the power steering pump. I have one rear nut to get off but it is in such a position as to make it almost impossible to get a 15mm socket or wrench into. I have tried taking off the left wheel and accessing the area from there but to no joy. Do you have any suggestions?

ABS light on, DTCs set. Some 1999-2004 midsize and full-size GM pickups and SUV's (full list below) may illuminate the ABS light and store DTC C0201 or C0265 in the ABS computer. In addition, code U1041 may set in other modules or you may encounter lost communication between your scanner and the ABS module.

According to GM, all of these problems are probably due to a bad connection at ABS ground GlK), which you'll find on the frame rail just underneath the driver's-side door. Restoring the integrity of the ground should eliminate all the problems. Here's how to go about it:

Start by getting the truck up in the air. Next, locate ground GIlO at the frame rail. Note that several ground wires may be there, but GIlO is the one with the heaviest wire (12-gauge). Disconnect the ground from the rail and use a "whiz wheel" to clean the area in front of and behind the ground connection. Now get a bolt, two star washers and a nut. Install the bolt, ground connection eyelet and star washer on one side of the rail and the other star washer and nut on the other side. Torque the nut to 79 in.-lbs. To complete the fix, spray the bare frame rail with rubberized undercoating (Part No. 12378398 or equivalent), lower the truck, then conduct a road test to ensure that the ABS light stays out.

My power door locks and rear hatch on my 2000 GMC Safari will not work. Everything else is still working. Any idea of what may be wrong?

I cannot open the rear hatch or doors. I cannot seem to find a fuse marked power door locks.

There are two fuses associated with the door locks system. The first is the Cigarette Lighter Fuse (Fuse 13 - 20A). This fuse provides power to the switches to activate the lock/motor relays. The second fuse is the PWR ACCY Circuit Breaker (30A). This provides the power thru the relay contacts to the lock solenoids/door motor. Both of the are in the Instrument Panel (IP) Fuse block.
