If the Pontiac engine is similar to the small block Chevy, you have, I believe, a hexagonal shaft that runs from the end of the distributor shaft down to the oil pump. This is turned when the distributor shaft is turned by the meshing gears on the camshaft and distributor shaft. I would say that you are probably going to have to re-time the engine. Find TDC, then replace the distributor. It won't matter a whit to the oil pump if the gears are one or two teeth off, but it will matter a great deal if you distributor is not installed so it can be adjusted a few degrees when you get to "fine timing" the engine. You should be able to download information on how to time the engine (finding TDC, etc.). Failing that, a trip to the library may be in order.

The speed sensor is on the output shaft of the transmission. Either it was damaged or not hooked back up.

My info says, under the vehicle, driver side, close to gas tank, attached to inside frame rail. If you lay on the ground, passenger side, look at the inside driver frame rail, you can probably see it. Make sure no pressure on the fuel system before taking any fuel lines loose.

The clutch packs for 3-4 need replacing this is a common problem with 4L60E transmissions. The vehicle should be driven D1 any time that you are traveling under 50 mph or 80 kms.

Mass air sensor could be bad causing the wrong air to fuel mixture. It's a cheap and easy replacement to try first.

On the frame rail somewhere. Should be esy to see.

check under the glove box door to see if you can see the hinges. Sometimes you can unscrew the hinges from the bottom. Else you have to knock out the hinge pin on both hinges, open the door from the bottom and see if you can swing the door up to undo the latch. If this does not work, cut a hole in the bottom ot the glove box, it is usually made of plastic or papier mache, release the latch from inside, then you can remove the plastic box once it is open and replace it with a new one. It will cost you, but it will be less expensive that breaking down the metal door!

You don't say anything about symptoms, but 1) strange noises might give you a hint 2) Won't shift into or out of 4wd. 3) you could jack up the vehicle so all 4 wheels are off the ground, (be careful) lock the hubs (if you have manual locking hubs) and start the vehicle and shift through the gears in both 2wd and 4wd.
