fuel pump location and replacement

2000 mustang 3.8 v6 doesnt start... We replaced the fuel filter, the car started after spraying carborator cleaner into the air intake, but didnt stay running... seems like gas isnt getting to the engine. The fuel pump fuse is fine, the test light lit when testing the fuse. Is this a fuel pump problem? if so how do i drop the fuel tank? guessing the fuel pump is located there... or can it be the fuel pump relay?

You are looking for the constant control relay module- ( CCRM ) see below. The pump will be located inside the fuel tank. Most of the time , its the pump and not the relay but, it wouldn't hurt to check the relay out. Teh relay is housed in the CCRM. Its located behind the engine coolant reservoir.

Hi

If you have engine management lights showing on your dash your car has gone into limp (or safety mode) and this explains your problem. In limp mode the engine is locked down as a safety measure to get you home and will not operate normally.

If this is the case the car will have to go to be scanned for error codes to identify the exact cause of the fault causing the limp mode condition.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

According with the Owners Manual, this fuse is located in Passenger compartment fuse panel. The fuse panel is located below and to the left of the steering wheel by the brake pedal. Remove the panel cover to access the fuses. To remove a fuse use the fuse puller tool provided on the fuse panel cover.

Check under both seats and make sure the wire harness is plugged in all the way. Some times shoving stuff under the seat unplugs wiring harness; seat belt sensor, occupant weight senor for air bags, heated seats & power seats (could be more than one wiring harness. Look inside belt buckle fastener; is it crusty with anything (food, crumbs, coin change)? Blow it out with a portable can of air. Make sure both the male/female parts of belt are clean, non-rusted/corroded & non-damaged to make good electrical connection when belted in; this turns off your belt warning light and bell. Check all wiring from the belt buckle release a the way down to under the seat; both sides...both seats They both seats could be interlinked into system; when one fails (bad connection) the other seat sensor fails also.

2000 ford mustang 3.8 no power at fuel pump fuse is good relay is good it does have a anti theft device, inertia is good

no power to the fuel pump, checked the inertia it's good, checked the fuse it's good, checked the relay it's good, it does have a anti theft device(is the fuel ground wire tied into that system some how?)on the fuel relay i put a ground wire manually from the ground terminal to the neg terminal on the battery and turned on the ignition there was a clicking sound like there should be, but still no power at the fuel pump?

You have a fuel pu,p driver module that gets the power from the inertia switch and the power for the fuel pump comes from that module. I would start by checking for a wiring problem. Below is a picture of where that module is located. At the plug of the module you want to make sure you have good continuity from the pink and black wire at the module to the inertia switch. Then you will want to make sure you have continuity from the fuel pump to the module in the brown and pink wire. That should be the power source to the fuel pump. One other thing to keep in mind and that is the PCM controls ground to the fuel pump so this may be an issue. Try that first to see if you have a wiring problem. If you have power from the inertia to the module but no power coming out of it to the fuel pump this may be your problem. Hope I was able to help...

Where is the fuse located for the secondary air pump for the 2000 Ford Mustang 3.8

Hi there:I suggest to check on the Power Distribution Box, that is located in the engine compartment. The power distribution box contains high-current fuses that protect your vehicle's main electrical systems from overloads.

8_22_2012_3_18_41_pm.gif

DTC P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)This DTC is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty
Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor
  • Possible cracked vacuum or PCV line/connection
  • Faulty or stuck open PCV valve
  • Failed or faulty oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1)
  • Sticking/plugged or failed fuel injector
  • Low fuel pressure (possible plugged/dirty fuel filter!)
  • Exhaust leak between engine and first oxygen sensor

Possible solutions, a lot of times, cleaning the MAF sensor and finding/fixing vacuum leaks fix the problem. If you're on a tight budget, start there, but that may not be the fix for certain. So, possible solutions include:
  • Clean the MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace/repair as required
  • Inspect all hoses and connections in the air intake system
  • Inspect and/or test the intake manifold gaskets for leakage
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
  • Ideally you'll want to monitor short and long term fuel trims using an advanced scan tool
  • If you have access, you may want to run a smoke test

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
