2005 Golf TDI Diesel - EGR "Emissions workshop" fault light

Fault reads: EGR System Insufficient flow: P0401.
Cleared fault light using a VAG5053 but light comes back on within a few days.
Would like to know where the EGR Valve is (Picture would be great) and how to test, clean or repair it.

Hi, The EGR valve itself is on a set of flexible pipework - usually stainless steel - which runs between the inlet manifold and the exhaust manifold. The EGR actuator valve is pneumatically / vacuum operated by a solenoid valve, controlled by the ECU ( aka the brane). It's not usual for the EGR valve itself to fail, more likely the solenoid valve or its electrical connector getting dirty. If you google for VAG TDI N75 valve you should get all the info you could possibly ever need :-)

Hope this helps, D.

If the car is a manual shift, the filler / level plug (Allen key) is on the front of the gearbox. Simply remove and fill to this level. Box holds 2.5 litres of 75/ 80 grade oil. Do NOT use EP grade
All the best

wet rear seats coming from a leak which looks to

wet rear seats coming from a leak which looks to be coming in through the boot and then under the seat?

Inside the rear wheel well behind the plastic liner there should be a rubber grommet which is used to access different wire harnesses for different equipment. Ex. all wheel drive, HID option with leveling sensor. The grommet might have come loose or is missing and probably has a small tear which let rain water from the road enter your vehicle. Also underneath the rear seat is the fuel tank which has an access port to service wet fuel pump assemblies in the tank. The cover plate must be off it's rest position and letting road water in when it rains.

Golf FSI (2005 Model) Automatic - Car Jerking when changing gears

I have a 2l Golf FSI (2005 Model) with automatic transmition (I think 6 speed). The car jerks when changing gears (especially from 1-2, 2-3). I have been quoted part costs of between $3,000 - $5,000 for new a transmision. Are there any other possibilities that could cause this same jerking? i.e. need to change the transmition fluid?

This is definately a fuel system related problem. But it could be linked also to the transmission but trouble shoot the car first.

1. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat. Have a test on it. You might need to replace that.

2. The fuel filters are located 1 in the tank and the 1 in the hood need to be replaced if detected to be dirty and heavy.

These should get your car back on the road and your mind at rest.

Good luck and remember to rate this solution.

Cheers.
