sometimes if the battery is weak enough that could cause a drain and suddenly the memory fails and then it resets to 12 oclock.Also the stereo system uses two 12 volt positive feeds one is a constant that many times is fused by the same fuse that feeds the lighter socket but also many times only one of the fuses on the fuse chart will mention the stereo when in fact another fuse is feeding a different circuit in the stereo. You could have weak charging/starting system connections connections due to rotted/corroded battery/alternator/starter/engine block ground posts/connections or the cables could even be rotted internally that connect up to those connections.Again weak or poor grounds or loose connections cause a drain on the whole system that could over draw some circuits causing them to temporally loose their proper operating voltage/power.

There is a known problem with the ignition starter switch that causes this, this is the switch that the ignition key operates when you turn it.

Do the brake lights work? If not then you have no power to the release solenoid that locks the shifter in park, check them.

If you have a factory radio, you might be able to threw the radio. Get to the menu and personalization part. If not, you can remove the key in switch on top of the lockset, in the steering column. Small white switch on top.

is the alternator doing its job! at battery with car off, should read at least 12.6 volts. ( with all accessories off ). if alternator is ok, then at battery when its running should be at least 14.2-14.7 volts with accessories off, make sure belt is tight and ok. if in doubt, take it to auto-zone and they will check the voltage for free. good-day !

It usually is by xhaust and intake. A haynes manual from partstore will show. If u can blow thru valve..then its probly just the gasket where it connects thatsbad

I can't find any listing showing that this 4.2 6 cylinder engine uses an EGR valve, and I have read chevy owners saying the same thing about this engine. It does have a block off plate, but no valve mounted. If had one it would be bolted to the top passenger side of the engine

If you have dual air control. It is the drivers side actuator on the plenum. This can be checked with a scanner. Not code reader.

Hello Bobby, What to save time, money and possible injury? Go to your local library and check for the availability of the service manual for your vehicle. There are too many steps to properly outline the procedure here.

Checking the fuses is a good first step, and it does not cost you anything. If you don't have a tool to check fuses, just replace the suspect fuse with a known good one of the same rating. How do you know a good one? take one from a functioning service, swap them out.

Check the rear differential for leaks. Look behind both tires. If it is wet , the bearings and seals need replaced. I would put a bearing kit in the differential.

Is the security light flashing? If it is, put the key in and turn all the way but don't start. Leave on for 10 min. Or until the security light stops flashing. Turn off and then try to start.
