Fuel Pump Relay 2002 Chevy Blazer

I was just reading a response you sent in July to a question about a fuel pump replacement on a 2002 Chevy Blazer and you sound like just the guy I need. My Blazer has been taking a while to start. It cranks, but it was taking five or six attempts before it would fire. This weekend it died completely and I had it towed to my mechanic. Long story short, changed the fuel filter, complete tune up. The car still wouldn't turn over unless starter fluid was sprayed into the carburetor. Then it would run OK, but then the check engine light came on and computer at Auto Zone said Mass Air Flow sensor. Replaced the MAF, and then the car ran perfect and started right up--without having to spray starter fluid into it. This morning it took forever to start again. Once it finally started, it ran perfectly. When I got to work, I turned it off and turned it back on again, but I have a feeling it won't start again today when I leave work. When the lid (?) is off the carburetor, it's almost like it's getting no fuel. Fuel pressure was perfect when it was tested, and the car doesn't bog or die at all, it runs perfectly once it starts. Could this just be the relay? I couldn't find the relay this weekend. Where is it located on my car? I found a bunch of relays under the hood and driver's side dash area, but nothing that was for fuel relay. Any Ideas??

It could be your fuel pressure regulator, check this link for details:

The parking brake actuator (the mechanism you press with your foot) works like a ratchet wrench. The pedal has a cresent shaped plate with teeth on it. It pivots on a mounting plate. There is a pawl with a small spring also on the backing plate. This pawl engages the teeth on the pedal assembly to hold the brake engaged (against the large return spring).
Stick your head under the dash and look carefully at the parking brake actuator mechanism. See why the pawl is not engaging the teeth on the pedal assembly. Most likely causes are that the release mechanism is jammed "on" or that the light spring which attaches to the pawl is missing (usually from being kicked by some one with large feet) View this mechanism on another GM vehicle with the same style parking brake if you suspect that parts are missing.

This is not a hard answer but I couldn't find it anywhere either so I figured it out.
On the drivers side of the vehicle between the door and the rear wheel, just under the vehicle (outside of the frame) you will see the cable. Locate the nut (it's on a lolong screw-the front of the screw is facing the front of the vehicle) About 6 inches toward the read of that screw attach a vise grip. Then rotate the nut with a 12mm box wrench and shorten the cable. It takes a lot of turns so after every 10 or so check the parking brake pedal. If you are going in the right direction it should stop further fromn the floor each time. The manual says adjust to the point the pedal travels 1/2 way to the floor.Tip- Lube the nut and screw before starting. The nut can be rusted on and may snap if you try too hard. Mine was nice and easy to turn and now the pedal stops 1/2 way to the floor.

Gonna do my best to explain it to you. See diagram below to refer to what I am explaining. You will need to take the number 1 cylinder spark plug out. Making sure your coil wiring is disconnected have someone in the car turn the key on and off for a brief second (tap it). As they are tapping the engine over you will want the piston in the number one cylinder to be at the very top. You may need to insertt a screwdriver in there to feel if it is up at the top but don't leave the screwdriver in there as the are tapping the emgine as it may get jammed in there and cause damage. So after they tap it feel down there with your screwdriver to see if it has moved up until you are sure it is at the very top of the cylinder wall. When it is at the top you should be at top dead center (TDC). Now as you put insert the shaft of the distributer into the engine the gear at the bottom of the shaft will turn the shaft. You want to insert it as it turns to where the rotor will be facing where the number 1 tab of the distributer cap is located. This may tatke a couple of tries to get it right but you will get used to how it rotatetes as you insert the distributer and make the ajustments to get it right. I think you will understand more as you do it then just what I am writing. Once the rotor is facing the number 1 spot on the cap you should be all set as far as how the distributer goes in. You will then need to set the timing once you get it running. I hope you were able to understand as I am not the best at explaining things. I hope this helps you and good luck. Here is your diagram.

2002 s10 blazer code p1638

2002 s10 blazer code p1638 generator f terminal fault what is this code indicate is wrong if the starting and charging system is good?

Answer

The PCM (powertrain control module) uses the generator field duty cycle signal circuit to monitor the duty cycle of the generator. The GM PCM is set to expect a charging system field of 0 to 30% when the key is off and the engine is not running. If it sees more or does not see any a code is stored. When the engine is running the PCM is set to see a charging field duty cycle of 0 to 100%.A PennTex GM replacement charging system (prior to 2008) normally has 11 to 12 volts on the blue field wire. (100% field duty cycle) with the key on and the engine off. This being more than the 30% the PCM expects to see causes a code to be stored. If the charging system has been verified then the code can be treated as informational. This was a known issue published by PennTex USA on 10/1/2008.

I hope this helped. God Bless.

Below are some pictures for you. This is not the easiest chain to replace. Things like the water pump, power steering pump, oil pan all have to be removed. Also I have had to manually rotate one of the camshafts and hold to line up the marks. Not in all cases but it has happened. You really need to make sure you are at top dead center (TDC) when putting back together. If you want feel free to email me at [email protected] with all your information and I will be happy to make you up a PDF with detailed step by step instructions with pictures. There would not be a cost to you for this. I don't mind helping. It can be quite detailed and you don't want to be off even a tooth which is why I did mention maybe having to rotate a camshaft. Also when buying the timing chain be sure to get a quality chain. The cheap ones don't have colors or marks on them and not only are you lining up your timing marks as far as the crank and camshaft sprockets but there are also chain links with colors on them that need to match up to your marks as well. This helps in making sure everything is lined up correctly. Hope this helps.......
