Hi,
If you do not own a scan tool (a device for diagnosing trouble codes and resetting check engine light), you can usually usually disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for about 5 minutes and, then reconnect it and see if the warning light clears.
This procedure assumes you are not talking about the maintenance light for oil changes, etc. that is mileage activated.
you have power to the tank but you don`t say if the ground circuit is any good. did you use a new pump or used as if used the pump may not be any good. also the wiring in the tank that connects to the pump may be a problem.
Hi Shelley, you mean the engine turns over but won't start ? It's missing one of three things Spark , Fuel or compression ! The last time it ran , did it run ok or not good ? No blue smoke coming out the tail pipe or smoke coming from under the hood ? Were there any lights lit on the dash , check engine , oil light...etc.. How low was the oil ? If the oil had been very low an you where driving it you could have fried the engine ! Me ,if this car came to my shop I'd pull a plug wire an see if it had spark an if it did I put a fuel presser gauge on an check for fuel ! If it had fuel I'd check compression ! Most usually if low oil were the problem the engine would seas up an would not turn at all. No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy You can watch this to see what is involved in finding out the problem !
Hello Todd, sitting here thinking about it only 2 things comes to mind. First question is it is an automatic. If so then your transmission oil cooler inside the radiator has a leak which in turn it leaking transmission fluid into the radiator. So if it is the transmission do you see any red gunk in the radiator or the water. Now same process if it is motor oil if it is a manual transmission. These new vehicle have motor oil flowing through the radiator to cool off the motor oil also known as the oil cooler. 9 times out of ten all you have to do is buy a new radiator or remove the metal or rubber lines running to the radiator and splice them together with high pressure hose. Which I recommend power steering return 3/8 hose, tough stuff. Just slide the rubber hose over the tube and clamp it down tight with a hose clamp and give it a whirl. But first I recommend you flushing the radiator. Good luck.
GM runs almost all electronics through the turn signal switch. They do go out often and its possible the steering column (possibly bought from a salvage yard I'm guessing) has a bad switch in it.
Ok is there any lights lit up on the dash??? There is an issue with a lot of gm cars.. it has to do with the security...it happened to my buick. just check out this site. your car make and model are on the list.. they have a part that is a permanent fix and really easy to install
Your car needs three components in the correct proportion to operate air, fuel and ignition. If your car is cranking and not starting you are not getting one of the three. Unless a bird got stuck in your air cleaner we can rule out 'air'.
