I have a 97' Pont. Grand Prix GTP with a 3.8 ltr supercharged. The car will start, run for about 20-30 secs., then die. I changed the fuel filter, it ran great for an hour, then started stalling again. I pulled the the fuel pump, and the pick up is clean. I'm told the fuel pressure regulator could be at fault or the speed control relay could be the problem. The car has 189,000 miles, and has been running great. I've seen no smoke from the tailpipe to indicate a rich condition.
Known GTP problem.
You most likely have a bad fuel pump resistor, which controls 2 speeds of the fuel pump.
To check to see if this is the problem, there is a trick you can do and its very easy to do. Go to the attached link, and bend the tab my finger is pointing at and then plug it back in. If your car starts and runs fine, well we just solved the problem.

There are 2 knock sensors in my 96 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP..I replaced the one but I am unable to locate the other. I was wondering if you know where it is or know where I can locate a diagram of the moter 3.4 DOHC online..Thanks for your help...
Both knock sensors are screwed into the side of the cylinder head between the front 2 cylinders.

code p1652 on a 1996 pontiac grand prix does anyone know what it means the book for computer codes is incomplete
Trouble code P1652 means: Cooling Fan 2 Relay Control Circuit
Malfunction
I would start by checking power supply to
the cooling fans,making sure the coolant system is full,& using a
scn tool to verify the proper operation of the cooling fan system.Here
is some info to help you.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
controls the operation of the cooling fans. This is accomplished by
providing a ground path for the cooling fan relay coils within the PCM.
The relay contacts will close and complete the circuit between the
fusible link at the battery junction block and the fan motors. Whenever
there is a fan ON request both fans will be running.
Power for the
fan motors is supplied through a fusible link at the battery junction
block. Battery positive voltage is applied to the cooling fan relay
contacts and coils. The cooling fan relays are energized when current
flows through the relay coils to ground at the PCM. The cooling fan
relay #1 control circuit is used for low speed cooling fan operation.
The cooling fan relay #1 control circuit and the cooling fan relay #2
and #3 control circuit are both grounded for high speed fan operation.
The cooling fan relay control circuits are monitored by the PCM. Before
using the Electric Cooling Fans diagnostic tables be sure to perform the
Powertrain On-Board Diagnostic System Check. If diagnostic trouble
codes P1651 or P1652 are present, use the appropriate DTC diagnostic
tables prior to performing Electric Cooling Fans diagnostics.
Important:
When certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present, the
PCM may command the cooling fans to run all the time. It is important to
perform the Powertrain On-Board Diagnostic System check prior to
diagnosing the engine cooling fans.The PCM will complete the
ground path for cooling fan relay #1 under any of the following
conditions:
- When engine coolant temperature exceeds 105°C
(221°F)
- When A/C is requested and
ambient temperature is greater than 10°C (50°F)
- When
A/C refrigerant pressure is greater than 190 psi (2 volts)
For
high speed cooling fans operation, the PCM will delay control of the
cooling fan #2 and #3 relays for 6 seconds. The 6 second delay ensures
that the cooling fan electrical load will not exceed the capacity of the
system. The PCM will complete the ground paths for cooling fan relays
#1, #2, and #3 under any of the following conditions:
- When
engine coolant temperature exceeds 113°C (235°F)
- When
A/C refrigerant pressure is greater than 275 psi (2.9 volts)
If
a problem that involves the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit
(cooling fan relay #1 control) exists, DTC P1651 should set. If the
problem affects the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit
(cooling fan relay #2 and #3 control), DTC P1652 should set. A problem
with the ECT sensor should set DTC P0117, P0118, P1114, or P1115. Any of
these DTCs will affect cooling fan operation and should be diagnosed
before using the Electric Cooling Fan Diagnosis table. The Electric
Cooling Fan Diagnosis table should be used to diagnose the PCM
controlled cooling fans only if no DTC is set.

where is the thermostat located on a 1996 pontiac grand prix, engine is a 3.1
I JUST CHANGED THE RADIATOR IN MY PONTIAC AND IT STILL IS OVER HEATING. COULD IT BE THE THERMOSTAT? I REFILLED IN WITH COOLANT.

96 pontiac grand prix gear shift moves but wont go into gear unless you move the car by hand then it clicks and will shift
Are you saying the automatic transmission will not shift into gear or the shifter won't move into the correct position?
It sounds like you have transmission problems but it could be that your linkage is loose or defective. Not enough information to give you a good starting place.

How do I install an illuminated lighter from custom accessories
Hi Kacey, The first thing to do is determine where you want it. Once you have, drill the relevant holes and then identify the cable which will carry the power and that which will operate the illumination. The center connection on the lighter is the main power which should carry an in line fuse. this can be a constant live or an ignition switched connection. Identy with a test light with one wire connected to ground and the other used to identify the cable. The cable connection for the illumination should be identified in a similar way using the test bulb. This can be done by following the cables leading to one of the interior units illuminated when the the lights are switched on. Make sure you have the correct cable by operating the light switch. If the test bulb operates with the switch you have the correct cable. Lastly connect a cable to ground and light up all you want. Regards John

bleeding the cooling system
look at your top radiator hose is there a small bleed valve at the top of the thermostat housing when the upper hose attaches to? If so loosen the bleed valve and allow the cooling system to purge the air out of the system you can tell when the air is out of the system when a steady stream of coolant starts to flow out of the bleed valve, if there is no bleed valve take the top radiator hose off of the engine side and allow the cooling system to purge the air out through the top of the engine that way

Looking for a way to remove the front ashtray from the dash.
in the ashtray there is usually a metal ****** like a ash stubber
press this down and then pull the whole tray towards you with it
depressed it should come out, to replace just reinsert and close this
will lock it back into place.
