There is a thermo switch, and there is a temperature control sensor. Also replace the radiator cap. Check for good flow in the radiator, have it back flushed.

Brake position sensor? If the switch is not working it will not register that you have depressed the brake and won't shift out of park.

Smoking from where? Under the hood, the pressure exceeded the rating of the radiator cap and the coolant was blown into the recovery tank. It may have fillled the tank and sprayed coolant on the engine making it smoke under the hood. You may have blown a radiator or heater hose, again if the smoke was coming from under the hood. If it was coming out of the tail pipe, you may possibly have blown a head gasket.

If no light, determine if the lack of acceleration is accompanied by missing like misfiring spark plugs. p0340 is a camshaft sensor circuit malfunction, and that will effectively cause long crank times before starting and also can cause rough idles, sputtering, etc.. Could be the sensor itself being faulty, could be the ring gear giving the sensor it's position that is dirty/damaged/bent, could be the connectors/prongs being loose or dirty, could be frayed or corroded wiring, or could be a faulty PCM, although it's alot rarer for a PCM to go bad. So start by checking the wires and connectors and the sensor gear, as this will be the only thing not costing money to do. If all else seems good, change the camshaft sensor if you can find one at a decent price.

run the fault codes first to check for recorded transmission codes then use the scanner to reset the CPU program as the program is probably corrupted from the power surges from jumping the battery incorrectly.
