which mean valve to piston hit.

But replace the timing belt.
Possible you didn't bent a valve.

if you like the car, and the rest of its in excellent condition, then fix it.it its rusted under neath, paint bad, interior bad, then NO. try to find a low mileage newer engine. I dont know Nissan that well, but didnt the MAXIMA use thes same engine. if so, there a lot to choose from. a salvage yard should be able to tell you what engines will fit. I would get one from a MAXIMA if at all possible. older mature drivers, ect.

check under pasenger seat on ecm you would have to read the flash codes when you set it in test mode

Look for the sender unit located near the tail of the transmission--check for loose, corroded wiring. If no help, replace the sender unit. Hope this helps!

first, get a spark plug and connect it to any of the HT cables, earth it against the engine and get someone to crank the engine, look to see if you have a spark, if it idoes, then it seems the electronics for ignition are ok, remove the spark plug and refit the HT cable if not , i would suggest you take the car to an auto electrician, because it could be beyond your capabilities of tools,testers and knowledge.
If you do have a spark, then check to see if you are getting fuel to the engine, you need to check if the fuel pump is working, switch on the contact and listen , near the tank, for a buzzing sound, that should be the pump working, if not, first check the fuses, if the pump isnt working and trhe fuses are ok, then its propable that the pump is dead, and you would need to replace it, If the pump is working , you need to check on the engine that fuel is getting into either the carburrettor or fuel injectors, whichever you have on that engine. If its a carb model, then slacken the fuel pipe into the carb and just quickly put the contact on to see if there is fuel, likewise with fuel injection, slacken the pipe on the fuel rail and check. BE CAREFUL doing this , NO SPARK or Naked FLAMES when this is being checked..
If you have fuel and a spark, then you need to check the engine compression, timing belt ( valve timing ) etc
Without being dis respectful, has the correct fuel been put into the tank, many times i have had cars that have been filled with diesel instead of petrol and visa versa.

the fuel injecter's for this year are **** they did a recall on them they might be leakin so look in to that. i think you can get new ones for free.

check the connector for the MAF mass air flow sensor and TPS throttle position sensor. Unplug them and look at the terminals to see iof they are green with oxidation. if so, clean them with a tiny file, like a fingernail file but narrower, or jewelers file. somthing that will fit into the plug and scrape the crust off the contacts. after that, fill the plug and sensor with dielectric greese, like silicone greese they use for spark plug wire boots.to seal out the moisture.

Fuel pump sounds like the place to go.

do you have power to the coil ? if so check the igniton control mod. you will need a ohm meter and the specs for the mod. you can get this at your local auto parts store.

PROBABLY IS TIME TO DO A TUNEUP SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES

YOUR problem is you have water in the engine as that is the only thing you can get apart from brake fluid that can cause white smoke OR steam out the exhaust or white steam out of the breather so check the dip stick it should have water beeds on with the oil or if you take off the filler cap it will have white oil on it,, so then drain sump and fit new filter and refill with 20W 50 and away you go..Have a goodday Ron

you can buy at auto zone or schucks or nappa auto parts. Nappa is a little more expensive but has the best warrenty.

take off plastic skid plate bout 16 10mm bolts u will see all, drian plug is 14mm

It is for shift timing for the transmission.

Off, or ECON(omy) on some models is faster shifting, to get you into a higher gear sooner, returning (hopefully) better gas mileage.

Power, or PWR on some models, is delayed shifting, holds the gears for longer amount of time to provide more acceleration per gear before shifting.

It is helpful for towing and making the car feel a little more sporty.
