How do I fix a check engine light problem
Check engine lights are to be reset using an ODB II reader. You can usually have this done for free, both reading and resetting the code, at any Autozone. If Autozone is not nearby, try any parts store that DOES NOT offer mechanical services. Stores with mechanics will want to charge a diagnostic fee. Stores that only sell parts will do the reading and resetting as a free service to get your parts business. Also, knowing the code may make it easier to fix permanently as the lights usually come back on after being reset unless something was actually done to correct the problem.

2001 Chevy Malibu does not crank over
is there power to anything in the car?? If so it sounds like your security system failed.. its very common in GM's . I had this issue, they do have a part that u can install yourself ( it bypass's it ) a lot more inexpensive than taking it in
P1635
P1635- 5 VOLT REFERENCE 1 CIRCUIT.
DESCRIPTION- the PCM uses the 5 v. reference 1 circuit to feed the throttle position sensor, MAP sensor EGR position sensor and the fuel tank pressure sensor with 5 volts. The engine computer monitors this voltage while the engine is running and will set the p1635 code if this 5 volt reference is out of its parameters.
2001 Chevy Malibu. anti theft is disable. Car has been fine. Now you try to start vehicle and it starts right up. Next time you try to start vehicle does nothing. You immediately try to start again
Two issues with this. First and most likely is the wiring going to the ignition switch. three wires( yellow, black and white) that go to the ignition module ( Ignition module is the second issue) They break, usually close to the plug. No one I have found sells them. you have to pull the ignition out. Go to a junk yard. To get the lock set out you have to have the key set to run. there is a square hole , you have to insert a pin in it to remove the lockset. Then you can remove the wiring plug. Get as much wire as you can ( get the lockset also, incase you need it). splice them together (soldering is best). try it before you put it back together. If it doesn't work. Put the lockset in. Do a relearn. Ten minutes with the key on, thirty seconds off. Do it three times. Then try to start. Have battery charger on it. If it goes below 5 volts, you have to do it all over again.

Location of freeze plug on 2001 malibu
I had a 2000 malibu 3.1 and the manifold gasket was leaking. Model years affected, 97-04. Check the recovery coolant tank and if it looks like a milk shake instead of coolant, then you have a bad intake manifold gasket. I replaced mine a few years ago and all was fine. Engines affected are the 2.4-3.1-and 3.5, look very carefully around the intake manifold and you will see it if its leaking! operating the engine with a coolant/oil mix can result in internal engine damage. Replacing the intake manifold gasket should correct these leaks. Because oil will mix with coolant if gasket is bad. Hope this helps you out! Good-Day!
