Neutral start switch

No, the starter is grounded to the engine block, . The neutral safety switch, Or gear select switch, is the midpoint for the 12v crank signal from ignition switch to the starter solenoid.

1998 k1500 5.7 vortex dies after it warms up suddenly

Holding the gas pedal to the floor stops fuel entering the injectors. You would need to figure out if it is fuel or spark to proceed.

67% of the it's a loose gas cap or clogged air filter. You can go to Autozone or any parts store and they will hook up an OBD reader and give you the code for the light being on ( for free )
