See if you can get a wiring diagram and check each wire from the fuse to the lights. Or, you can look for a disconnected wire in the trunk and maybe get lucky.

My car is overheating. What is going on

Have you checked the thermostat? Run the car until the gauge shows normal temp and carefully check the upper radiator hose. If it isnt hot and if you can easily squeeze it the thermostat isnt opening to let water flow to the radiator. If it's opening, check to see if the fan is coming on. If that's not running, check the voltage at the fan, then the fan relay. If you aren't getting power at either of those places it could be your temp sensor.

Where is the thermostat on a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier?

there probably isn't a radiator cap. some cars only have a cap on the resivior tank. if your coolant is low, it'll show in that tank. follow your upper radiator hose to engine. thermostat should be at the end of it, depending on what engine you have

I've been working on this 1998 chev cavalier for four yrs now. This is a family car that will not be resole. I need to Know if I can flash the new EMC/PCM with the new miles to the new engine. I've as

There are a few problems with your question and some are of a LEGAL Problem and I will explain a few of them. A. A car that is over 10 years old can now be recorded as "EXEMPT" meaning that the mileage will be recorded as ZERO. B. Modifying the Mileage on your Instrument Cluster is against the Law. Mileage is Recorded every Inspection so there will be what is called a "Discrepancy" and will show up on a Carfax or any other Historical Documentation. C. Flashing your PCM/ECU will not due you any good and is not what you want or need with your car. What you have done is made your car reliable for YOU and if you keep your records and continue to do the maintenance, it may reward you in the long run but Flashing your PCM will not do what you want. The history of the Car is what is important. Car Fax keeps the records for Dealerships and if you are doing the work, this will not eve be recorded. This car is nearly 17 years old. It is a USED CAR, don't worry about it and don;t attempt to deceive a future buyer, it will come back to haunt you...

Issues with my 1998 Dodge grand Caravan 3.8L engine

Very typical of a fuel delivery issue. Start by changing the fuel filter (inexpensive). If that does not correct the condition, check the fuel pressure. If fuel pressure is insufficient, check the operation of the fuel pressure regulator and replace if necessary (also relatively inexpensive). If that does not help, you'll need to replace the fuel pump. You may have additional issues, based on your description of the "flashing" warning lights. Once you fix the fuel delivery issue, you will likely have additional repairs. Regular maintenance would have avoided the compounding of issues.

Radio has no sound

First check whether the connector for the speaker wires is firmly plugged in behind the radio. Try unplugging and replugging to make sure. (Note: the connector may be attached to the radio or it may be on the end of a short length of wire.) If the speakers are firmly plugged in and you still don't get sound, the next step is to test the speakers. Do this by unplugging the wires behind the radio, then run a meter across one pair (for one speaker) to make sure you don't have an open circuit (broken connection). Alternatively, feed audio from the speaker outputs on a boombox or other stereo to that pair of wires. If you don't get sound or if the meter says there's an open circuit or direct short, either the speakers are bad or there's a broken wire between the radio and the speakers. Most bad connections happen at one end of a wire or the other, so look at the connectors at the radio and at the speakers. Finally, if the speakers do check out, you'll have to test the car radio itself. Run a pair of wires for one speaker from the radio's outputs to an external speaker (any working speaker will do). If there's no sound, your radio is broken. Of course, the easy way to do this is take it to a place that installs car radios. They can check it out quite easily and make recommendations. Don't take it to a Chevy dealer. They'll charge you a fortune, and if the radio is bad, they'll sell a refurbished unit for more than you'd pay for a high-end Kenwood or Pioneer.

I have a 1998 chev.cavalier. my question is why my back defroster is not working .wthat is the posible solution?

Most likely cause is the back grid on the glass has a crack in it. There is a fuse and a switch. You will need an ohmmeter to check them all.

Can ANYBODY help me with a problem on a 1998 chevrolet Cavalier?? The tempature gauge was working then just bottoming out now it won't work at all, any ideas????

If you replaced the temp censer. Check the terminal on the wire to the censer is clean and a good tight fit . you can check the censer with a ohm meter . with the engine cold take reading jot it down, bring engine to running temp. take a reading , the resistance will be lower if the censer is ok. connect the meter one probe to censer terminal other probe to earth to take the readings. You could try and reset the computer by taking the + terminal of the battery for a few minutes . you will need the code to reset radio and cd player.

Need to know signs of my starter going bad

I have a 96 Cavalier and lately, sometimes when I go to start my car, I turn the key and the engine won't crank. All of the dash lights turn on, so I don't think it would be the battery. If I wait a few minutes and try again, it fires right up. This is probably the first sign of the starter failing. I've been told to whack the starter with a hammer while someone is turning the key, but have also been told that with Cavaliers build in the 90's and up, this is a no-no. There are magnets inside the starter that can break if hit with enough force. I have yet to have the starter fail to the point of not being able to start it at all, but I'm sure that time is coming. Hopefully, I can trade this POS in for something decent.
