P0442:Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)
what this system does is collect and store gas fumes, it also uses vacuum to detect any fuel tank or line leaks, it has zero to do with exhaust leaks, this code is often caused by a loose gas cap or a defective gas cap, so check the gas cap and make sure it is properly secured, if it is clear the code and see if it comes back, also never fuel the car with the engine running or the key turned on, this will trigger P0442.

if the car cranks ok it's not a battery or alternator issue.remove a sparkplug, attach theplug wire and have someone crank the engine.if you get a spark try this.open your fuel cap,put your ear close to the tank.have someone turn on the ignition you should hear the fuel pump ru n for about two seconds.if you don't it may be your fuel pump.if you didn't get a spark on the first test it's an ignition problem

Check your circuit breakers and fuses to see if any of them stay warm after you've turned the car off for a few minutes. This might give you a clue as to which circuits are causing the draw.

Need to have a meter to check continuity between new alternator and the new battery. Make sure all connections are tight. May have open fusible link which a meter will reveal. May have bad voltage regulator in the ECM which should show a code. I do not like relying on dash gauge, they can be inaccuate. Time to have a mechanic check for codes and continuity.

If you are talking about the check engine light, you'll need a scanner or code reader to get the trouble codes.

You can disconnect the battery and they may stay off for a limited time. Also a computer at an auto shop will reset them. But they will come back on until you fix the problem.

Some states don't allow an exception. You either get it fixed, sell it or don't drive it.

depends on how much you want to spend.

tools you need.....socket set with a 5/8 sparkplug socket, plug gapper tool, and the proper gap
parts you need, sparkplugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter. replace each plug one at a time, change plug wire at same time. there should be no other adjustments needed as its all controlled by computer.

That's because water is soaking the BCM. Where the security is programmed. First fix the water problem. You will have to remove the wiper arms, remove the wiper bezel. On the passenger side there will be a piece of molding that as fell off. down by the cabin filter (replace it also). use silicone and replace the molding back to the ledge right above the filter. This will fix the water problem. Next fix the BCM. It is under the dash directly below where you were just working. Remove the three plugs, dry them out(hair dryer?) Pull the BCM out (Black box, just pops out to the side). Cut the tape and open it up, remove the board. Dry it also. Also if you see ANY white to light green discoloration on the board. Brush it of with a tooth brush, Be very nice to this board. $300+ to replace it and have it programmed. Doing this will get rid of all the security problems and lights. I've done it to many times.
