TRANSMISSION CABLE

On my '96 Olds 98, brake transaxle shift interlock is simply a pain in the ***. Solution: always press foot brake AND parking brake hard and hold while shifting into park and shutting down engine. Try not to park "downhill." Read owners manual;"shifting out of park." This even calls for opening and shutting the door! If you can't start in park, try neutral. If all else fails, unhook red battery cable for a minute. Re-attach and restart car, which should re-set computer to recognize your key, which has a computer chip embedded in it. Worst option EVER invented!

How do you know when your radiator needs flushing

There is a tester u can buy at an auto store that checks the potency of the existing anti-freeze especially if u just purchased the car used....no telling when the last owner flushed it.....it all depends on mileage...every 30,000 or more is sufficient unless u have had radiator problems with dirt and gunk in them....

the plastic jug is an overflow container when the vehicle gets warm excess coolant from the radiator flows to it there is a sensor somewhere on the jug or in it for coolant level if it doesnt hold coolant it is most likely cracked as it is only plastic and should be replaced

Should there be o-rings on my ****** coolant lines going to the radiator on a 1997 grand prix gt 3.8l? I replaced raidiator and now the top line leaks?

I think there are o rings. Did you get the lines tight enough?I had to really tighten mine on my Buick LeSabre 3.8.

My car had started squealing on 7-5-12. I was told it was a bad pulley. Well I found out that it was my p/s pulley. Then I have notice oil in my radiator. There is no water on oil dip stick. No white

You can take a compression tester and test each cylinder, you can look up what the compression should be in each cylinder on line. if you low compression in one of the cylinders then you might have a bad head gaske, but since you have to have the head removed to change gasket, i would recommend having the head pressure tested for cracks at a machine shop.

Generally, you drain it, remove the hoses and trans lines, the cooling fan, and the 4 bolts that holds it in.

I have a 96 grand prix se 96 3100 Sfi V6 when i

The cleaner will not hurt anything. Your motor will just burn it up like fuel. I use the STP (red bottle) because it says on the bottle that it gets rid of condensation in the fuel tank. Condensation (water) does form and collects in the bottom of the gas tank. I use the fuel treatment 3 or 4 times a year and I think it really works. I have a 2001 Monte Carlo that I bought new and it has 177000 miles and it gets 34.5 mpg highway.I have been useing the fuel treatment from the beginning. It has the 3400 V-6.Its basically the same engine you have.
Also you must install a new fuel filter every 30000 miles. The tanks at the gas stations are filthy.
Also check the condition of your air filter and replace at 20000 max.
Transmission filter and oil at each 50-60000 miles.
I hope this info helps you.

I have a 97 grand prix gt 3.8 ...it wont shift into gear unless it has warmed up to the first line on dash

An old solution is to thin the g/box oil with some Auto fluid but call your mechanic or g/box place & ask if that is ok with your g/box.

Where is the washer fluid motor on a 1997 grand prix

The washer fluid pump is located on the side or bottom of the washer fluid tank. Removing the tank may be required to get to the pump. It just pops in or out of the rubber seal after removing the connector and hose. Any parts store should have a new one...$15 to $20 bucks.
