Pontiac grand am stalling
im sure you dont have this problem but the answer to that is lays most definitely in your ignition switch or transponder key. i have seen this problem in many different makes and models. if no trouble code and it cutts off refer to your manufacturers vehicle theft trouble codes...it does not have to have an alarm, all cars equipped with a transponder system have theft trouble codes that do not show on OBD2. Transponder keys fail all the time. cross reference the computer logs with google and it will tell you the problem. not very many people know this and unfortunately many people get stuck in a money pit when the problem is so simple as a key. So, keep an eye out for that theft light in the future, it may save you money.

Engine knock
This could be at engine due to 1) poor gas octane 2) hot engine
for gas try super unleaded and test. keep an eye on temperature also which should be normal

93 Pontiac Quad 4 No Oil Presure
There will be one of three things wrong:
1) The oil pump lost prime. This engine uses a gerotor type pump and long periods of sitting allows the oil to drain back to the pan.
2) There is a restriction at the oil pickup screen or at the passage between the block and head. There is a check valve in the block (at the head gasket, there is an opening) and there could be trash blocking it.
3) IF you're lucky, its a defective sending unit.
Until you know for sure, don't run it. Install a mechanical guage, disable the ignition system at the module plug, and crank the engine. Some pressure should register on the gauge, if only 3-5psi. If it doesn't, remove the oil filter, take a quart of oil with a nozzle on it and force oil back into the outlet port of the filter housing, fill the filter completely, then spin it on as quickly as you can. Some oil will be spilled, but this is a step you want to take before tearing into the motor. Another quick way is put approximately 10 quarts of oil in it and with the ignition disabled, crank it over and see if the pressure comes up. (GM sent that as a bulletin on Northstar engines that lost prime. The down force of the pistons will force the oil to go to the pump.) JUST BE SURE TO DISABLE THE IGNITION. Hope this helps...

Tapping in moter
is it a rythmic tapping ? could need the 'tappets' adjusting.if its intermitant that will be harder to locate so try to narrow down the area you think noise is coming from and at what speeds or just when stationary etc

Short hose leaking coolant/water in engine at firewall
The only coolant hoses i know of that would be anywhere near there would be ran to your heater core. Try looking for a place to reconnect the hose to. The heater uses your coolant to heat your vehicle & it sounds like the hose came off.

Crank sensor
Parts stores sell an inexpensive harmonic balancer puller. Simple to use and makes the job easy.

Backfired then quit
sounds like your exhaust valves aren't opening up which means either your cam is out of round, push rods are bent/flatten rocker arms broken, broken valve stem/seat, hopefully just the valve got stuck closed due to carbon build up

Water pump replacement
the water pump should be located front right of motor the only thing that may take some time is if the belt needs to be replaced some models require you remove part of the engine mount. Job should take a pump / belt if damaged / antifreeze.

Heater core
Sounds like a bad heater core. You will get steam/vapor out of vents from this. If you are referring to the over flow tube being the evaporator drain tube at the firewall its because the heater core shares the same case with the A/C and its filling up with anti-freeze.
