2002 Nissan Quest Questions & Answers
Does my 2002 nissan quest have a timing belt or chain
you do have a timing belt. this engine is actually a NON INTERFERANCE engine. if you t-belt brakes, engine will be ok. have seen it plenty of times. to quickly check if your belt is broken/not good, simply remove the distributor cap and crank it. it the rotor is spinning, then belt didnt brake. however it still could be out of time if the belt jumped a tooth two. if it jumped more than 3 teeth, then it will not start, because cams are out of time.
When do I replace the 2002 nissan quest timing belt?
Replace your timing belt before this happens. I was very lucky. The tensioner was making noise “for quite a while I must admit”. I finally got around to replacing it and this is what I found. I highly recommend you don’t wait this long.
How can I replace donut gasket?
heat you heat up the studs on exhaust manifold take em off while cherry hot let every thig cool off then put new donut gasket in re seal all exhaust sometimes pb blaster will loosen them too.
Check engine light is blinking on and off
it indicates a problem and should be investigated immediately
it reports on the engine ( check oil level, water level, charge rate ) and transmission ( check oil level if auto and gear selection process)
have the fault codes run asap to determine if the problem is going to costly or just sensor failure
3.3l. Where is the knock sensor located?
this isn't a simple repair job, the knock sensor must be replace, I would also make sure that this IS the knock sensor that is the issue here otherwise if you replace and clear the codes the same issue will appear again, sometimes the engine computer will throw a code that is correct but misinterpreted which I believe might be your case,If you have a knock sensor code on any Nissan (in my experience) replacing the knock sensor will not fix it. The knock sensor detects unwanted engine vibrations, such as miss fires. So if you have a knock sensor code first check your spark plugs, are they in proper condition? (if not replace them). Next quest vans are known for clogging fuel injectors so i would recommend running a can of sea foam injector cleaner.
Cooling fan not working
The PCM is what controls the fans by grounding them. It receives a signal from the engine coolant sensor. Start with the sensor and the wires at the sensor plug.
Adjusting a slow seat belt retractor
Oh dear. I have the same problem with my vehicles. As explained to me by dealer, the return system on these set belts are similar to those on tape measures and the pull start on a lawn mower. They're a spring steel coil type thing that simply gets tired over time. That's why they'll retract with help. The only answer they've had is to replace them. Easier on some vehicles than others. If your seat belt is, like my GMC, enclosed in the plastic interior component by the door latch, then it can become easier and more cost effective to have it done by a repair shop. I checked my Chilton/Haynes repair manuals (and I have many covering different makes and models), and this is one of the few areas they don't cover. A shop will also be able to tell you what new models may have the interchangeable belt systems. If I were you, and decide to have it done, I'd replace all of the belt systems since the interior is going to be torn apart anyway. And even though the drivers seat belt system gets the most wear, they are all 13 years old and mold/rot can hide in many places. And you may be able to get a full set out of a newer wrecked model. Best of luck.
