1999 Nissan Quest - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Have 1999 quest, hearing wide
Your comments are right, several solutions for several diferent items, not allways are the same case; I will just tell you what were my findings (not saying the same thing will fix your issues):
Problem - steering wheel vibration while driving at highway speed
Findings - the dealer balanced my factory wheels 3 times and the first balancing helped reduce the vibration but the problem never went away; finally replaced all 4 factory tires with Toyo tires (at 30k) and problem is gone.
Problem - I experienced no acceleration while driving at slow speed (felt like it was stuck in 1st gear where RPM reved but car hardly moved)
Findings - Found a TSB on this problem and it recommends replacing the Transmission control module (TCM) and this was done under warranty, since then no more problem
Problem - steering wheel shake while braking
Findings - I have read many posts about this issue and the dealer will typically recommend resurfacing the front rotors, then the problem would go away and come back several thousand miles later, then they recommend resurfacing them again and eventually they will tell you its too thin and you need to replace them at your expense; I spoke with a friend that work at a Nissan service dept and he tells me many Nissan cars have warped rotor issues and that the rotors are just not very good; I myself have never let the dealer resurface my rotors as I strongly believe that making them thinner will just make rotor warping worst; so this weekend I went ahead and replaced my front rotors with ones from Frozen rotors and put in Raybestos QS ceramic pads, also replaced the rear pads with Raybestos QS ceramic pads; all this was done at 33k and let me tell you the rear pads definitely got worn down much more than the fronts and the rear had only about 1/8" pad left; all the parts mentioned above came to $367, and I did the work myself; I will have to drive it for several weeks and see if these new brakes are that much better
Starts up but dies, even
You need to have an OBII scan done (fault scan) Engine light on is telling you that an error has been logged to your computer via one of many sensors. Have scan done, and it will list what triggered sensor(s). Any good parts store like Autozone, Advance, etc... can do this for you for free.
Redid the cooling system complete
your engine has 2 bypass hoses coming off the air intake that wrap to the rear of the engine one may be blown but if you replace one might as well replace both the are only 5-6 bucks and have to be ordered from the dealership if that doesnt work id start looking to replace heater core before you start getting puddles in your floor board
Plugs were shot in 1999
I really doubt it. I wouldn't spend that much money just yet. They usually last longer then the vehicle. Sometimes they go out but you dont want to waste a few hundred bucks for nothing. Try this. Check your fuel filter and air filter. Make sure nothing is clogged in them. Check your vaccum hoses for leaks. A little leak can cause that. It could be leaking fuel injectors or just a bad connection somewhere. The only way to tell is to start checking these. If you have another question, please let me know. I am here to help you in anyway I can.
I have a 1999 nissan
does the smoke have a sweet antifreeze odor to it?if so unfotunately your heater core is most likely leaking.
The distributor on my husbands 99 Nissan Quest
most likely timing belt failed.this turns camshafts which in turn rotate distributor.fotunately for you ford insisted nissan make this a non interference engine during their joint venture with mercury villager.so no internal damage should have occurred.im guessing about 700.00 to replace timing belt, water pump and drive belts.

Instructions
-
Raise
the hood of the Kia Shortage view the interior. From front to back you
will see the grill, the radiator, the radiator fans, and the engine. On
the top of the engine is the valve cover---an aluminum cover that
encloses the top of the engine---that is bolted in place.
-
Look
behind the valve cover for an aluminum rail that goes across the back
of the engine. Inserted at equal distances---both below and into the
rail---are tubular injectors that are also inserted into the engine.
The aluminum rail is called the fuel rail. It is a hollow tube that
holds the tops of the injectors and supplies them with fuel. Each of
the injectors are also plugged into the engine wiring harness.
-
Inspect
the injectors for any signs of fuel leaks. Although rare, leaks do
occur, especially due to age and mileage. If leaking, do not drive the car as there is an increased risk of fire. Repair the injector seals before driving the car again.
Smoke coming out below moter white
Does your vehicle sound a little bit louder then it used to when it was newer?
The white smoke is probably coming from the exhaust system, which you may have a gasket or seal gone on, which happens within time to every vehicle.
