1987 Nissan Pickup - Page 3 Questions & Answers
How can I fix one ingnition sytem on my dual-ignition system 1987 Nisson pick-up 2.4 liter engine?
Well just like Noah predicted everything is in 2"s well this system is very usually it has both systems working until full load then shuts off the intake side. Now here are some simple tests do both coils make spark ( Yes) then test at both intake and exhaust spark plugs (NO) then check coil for power on both terminals with a logic probe once running the negative side should flash red/green sometimes looks orange or yellow if good bad coil if bad ignition module, pole piece, broken wires. if good out of coil but not to plugs bad ignition rotor and or dist. cap.
I have a 87 Nissan Pickup. The truck starts but catches, putters, as I drive. Lately when I park, it no longer wants to start. The mechanic replaced the spark plugs, et al, and the problem has continu
From your description, I would be looking at the air mass sensor.
Beyond that other things to check are if you have a hot spark. Pull the coil wire fron the center of the distributor, hold close to a metal part of the engine and have a friend crank the engine. If you get a blueish colored spark, the ignition is hot. If it is a weak yellow color, you may not be getting enough voltage to the coil. Note, the mechanic should have never let the truck out of his shop if it was not running right! He has the tools to check the fuel pressure, which can cause your problem. It takes 27-33 psi at an idle to run that motor under throttle conditions, it can jump up to 50 psi. If it can not deliver those pressures you truck will either be very weak on power or won't run at all. Based on your description, I can only assume he had done these checks. Have you replaced your fuel filter? Often people forget all about them and they can get clogged up depending on where you have been buying your fuel. Some stations do not maintain their pumps and you end up pumping trash in your tank. I hope I have given you a few directions to go in. Earlier I mentioner the Air mass sensor first. Belay that. Check the fuel pressure first. Good luck.
