I need to know how to re assemble the top timing
You have to remove the chain tensioner and reset it which from memory is a bastard of a job At worst you going to have to remove front timing cover Cant remember if there is a plate on cover to get at it or not Located on exhaust side of motor anyway about alternator height Good luck!

Where is the inertia cut-off switch on 1983 nissan 720 PU
I'm not sure if there is a cut off switch for the 720. I was just reading recently about a common problem on them though, being the fuel pump control unit. If your pump isn't working, this may be your culprit. It is located on the passenger side kick panel. Pull the trim off, you should see it. Cost for them is about $60-$70. There may be a way to test them, I don't know.

Why battery want hold charge
If the battery is new, and you know for a fact the alternator is charging the battery, you probably have something in the truck that is draining the battery with the key off. Make sure the alternator is actually charging the battery by using a meter to test it, then you may have to start checking circuits for a drain.

Where is the headlamp fusible
there is only one fusible link in datsun pickups (up to 86ish) its installed in the thinner of the two wires connected to the positive battery terminal. replacements are simply plugged into the connectors in this wire.

Wiring problem; when i switch
Not having a wiring diagram, I can say this sounds very much like a grounding problem to me. Try running ground wires to the headlight buckets, bulbs an Ignition module.
Also check the charging and bat situation as most solid state igs require a minimum of 9 vt.
Don't miss the key switch output.

My 83 nissan 720 pu fuel and temp gauge quit
fuel and temperature guages on the old nissan cars are run from the same fuse.
i cannot remember which one it is, but if you check your fuses you should be able to see if any are blown. i am pretty sure that there is not a relay for the guages as they do not use enough power to need one.

Have an 83 nissan 720 p/u 4 x 4. The engine misses
If it misses when you look to accelerate my first thoghts are towards fuel mixture, running lean. If not the fuel mixture I woul think the problem lies with timing.
I hope this may have assisted,
Tom

New battery, new alternator, will
Check all of your fuses. Make sure that your engine is getting gas. Does the fuel pump kick on? Have you had it tested for codes?

I have no brake lights.
First check that there is 12 Volts, using a multimeter or test lamp, on one of connectors to the brake light switch and then on both sides when pedal is depressed. Switch may need adjusting, by unscrewing if it does not show 12 V on both sides when pedal is depressed. If voltage is present then go to multipin connector block that is near the tail light assemblies and check again for voltage, with pedal depressed or switch bypassed with a bit of wire, on both sides of block. If OK on main loom side but not on light side then check in connector block for a bad connection which could be caused by pushed back metal connecting pins. If OK then fault is in wiring or the light assemblies.
If it is still not working correctly, check the earth wire that runs from the globe socket and any connectors in the wiring loom near the Light Assemblies as well as where the earth wire is attached to the body. If necessary, remove, clean thoroughly by removing any corrosion or paint and re-attach securely.

Need vacuum hose diagram for '83 nissan 720 Z24
See if you can find a Haynes manual ISBN 1 56392 410 2 This covers the 1980 through 1997 models. There are several different hose diagrams depending on the version you have. There is a California model, a federal model, and a high altitude model.
The hose diagrams are in section 6, around page three in the book I have.
