how to replace a timing chain 2000 chevy cavalier

i need to know how to replace the timing chain on a 2000 chevy cavalier Z24...

I am familiar with that vehicle but generally with timing chain replacement, the engine needs full access for pulley and cover removal and in some cases the cylinder head requires removal.
Generally timing chains last so that they only need replacement at engine overhaul and it is not an economic proposition to have to replace a chain unless some relative degree of engine work is also required at that time.

Engine timing chains generally have a tensioner on them which maintains tension, but some chains can wear significantly and cause timing cover to be "ground away" because of "slop".

If the engine is making the noisy rattle of the timing chain against the cover etc, I would schedule a top overhaul (head, machine, test and valve grind) with the chain replacement dependent on mileage with the degree of action.

Some simple simplex timing chains (type of chain similar to motor bike chain) may be replaced without dismantling the engines but I would expect your chain would be a "duplex" dual sprocket type, these are most common.
These chains are not generally expensive but replacing them can involve a fair amount of work.

Good Luck and hope this helps, Others will have different ideas.

trunk latch wont hold shut on my 02 cavalier

02 chevy cavalier-trunk wont shut. All parts appear to be in working order-but latch wont hold trunk close-it goes to grab the latch-but doenst lock it to hold closed-should I replace the whole assembly? or is it easier to fix than that?

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.

Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.

Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.

If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
(see Figures 1 and 2)

CAUTION The fuel injection system remains under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure using the recommended procedure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the fuel tank, then remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  4. While holding the modular fuel sender assembly down, remove the snap-ring from the designated slots located on the retainer.

WARNING The modular fuel sender assembly may spring up from its position. When removing the modular fuel sender from the tank, be aware that the reservoir bucket is full of fuel. It must be tipped slightly during removal to avoid damage to the float.
  1. Remove the external fuel strainer.
  2. Detach the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) piece from the electrical connector and detach the fuel pump electrical connector.
  3. Gently release the tabs on the sides of the fuel sender at the cover assembly. Begin by squeezing the sides of the reservoir and releasing the tab opposite the fuel level sensor. Move clockwise to release the second and third tabs in the same manner.
  4. Lift the cover assembly out far enough to detach the fuel pump electrical connection.
  5. Rotate the fuel pump baffle counterclockwise and remove the baffle and pump assembly from the retainer.
  6. Slide the fuel pump outlet out of slot, then remove the fuel pump outlet seal.

To install:
  1. Install the fuel pump outlet seal, then slide the fuel pump outlet in the slots of reservoir cover.
  2. Install the fuel pump and baffle assembly onto the reservoir retainer and rotate clockwise until seated.
  3. Install the lower retainer assembly partially into the reservoir. Line up all 3 sleeve tabs. Press the retainer onto the reservoir making sure all 3 tabs are firmly seated.

Gently pull on the fuel pump reservoir from retainer to assure a secure fastening. If not secure, replace the entire fuel sender.
  1. Attach the fuel pump connector.
  2. Fasten the CPA connector to the fuel sender cover.
  3. Install a new external fuel strainer.
  4. Install the modular fuel sender.
  5. Install the fuel tank in the vehicle.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Pressurize the fuel system and verify no leaks.
