1996 Chevrolet K1500 - Page 2 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe and some mornings when I
the fact that you can start it at other times suggests that there is nothing wrong with the fly wheel , ring gear or starter
have the fault codes rear
have the fuel pressure read as it may be a problem pressure regulator loosing pressure overnight
How to change fuel pump
You have the choice of either dropping down the gas tank or removing the bed/box as the pump is in the top of the gas tank.
If you remove the bolts in the box you can tip it up and remove the pump but be sure to brace up the bed so it don't fall on someone, if you decide to pull the box to the rear you will need to take the tail light harness apart.
Setting timeing
you will need to unplug the lead with from the dist. and then mark the balance with a mark you can see with the engine running and using a timing light check to see where the balance mark lines up on the timing tab. You can see the timing setting on the label on the support for the radiator support brace under the hood but I believe it should b top dead center.
Adjusting valves
Your truck uses hydraulic lifters, and there is no valve adjustment.
Engine missing
Question is very unclear.
HOWEVER:
We have had a discussion in reference to solving your problem.
Results to your answer as asked.
-Replace your missing engine, if your missing entire engine we recommend a long block (This will be an entire engine). To include replacement of the missing plugs wires and cap.
hope this tip helps.

Change brake light switch
Brake light checkout:
The brake light switch is on the brake pedal arm.
You can adjust it or replace it. Usually the problem is a rubber stop falls out and the switch end goes into the hole and never actuates.
Look around there and check that area out.
Hope this helps.

Many service procedures require the air bag system to be disabled to prevent accidental deployment. The air bag system can maintain sufficient voltage to cause deployment for up to 2 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off, the battery ground cable is disconnected or the DERM fuse is removed. If the inflator module is disconnected from the deployment loop by the following procedure, service can begin immediately without waiting for the 2 minute time period to elapse.
- Turn steering wheel so that vehicle wheels are pointed straight ahead.
- Turn ignition switch to Lock position and remove key.
- Remove air bag fuse from fuse block.
- Remove steering column filler panel.
- Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and disconnect yellow two-way connector at base of steering column, Fig. 1.
PASSENGER SIDE
- Remove air bag fuse from fuse block.
SIR ENABLE:

Hello my name is Christopher I have a 96 Chevy K
check that the earth wire is making good contact , when ignition off the relay should have power to one prong , does it ? the brighter light on one prong than the other does point to a earth problem though, i presume you have checked the fuse board , as you know some fuses feed thing's not mentioned , worth a check , keep me posted if you wish
