1992 Oldsmobile 88 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have a 92 olds
It sounds like you are having a problem with your 1992 Oldsmobile 88. The issue you described, where the car is not accelerating and stalling out, could be caused by a number of things. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
- Check the fuel system. A faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel filter could cause the engine to stall out. Check the fuel pump and fuel filter and replace them if necessary.
- Check the ignition system. A faulty spark plug or ignition coil could cause the engine to misfire and stall out. Check the spark plugs and ignition coils and replace them if necessary.
- Check the fuel pressure. Low fuel pressure can cause the engine to stall out. Check the fuel pressure and make sure it is within the manufacturer's specifications.
- Check the engine temperature. If the engine is overheating, it could cause the engine to stall out. Check the engine temperature and make sure it is within the normal range.
I recommend having a mechanic diagnose the problem in order to determine the cause and recommend the appropriate repair. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
My olds 1992 88 stopped
have you got a good spark- take out a plug and lay it plugged into the lead on top of the engine so the tip is earthed (touching the engine) and crank it over - DO NOT TOUCH THE PLUG WHILST CRANKING AS IT GENERATES MASSIVE ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE..............
if it sparks its probably a fuel problem still and not ignition/electrical.
Car is saying it is hot when its not
Could be a problem with ect--wiring circuit--instrument cluster. I'd have to double check your temp gage by using an infra-red temp gun on your engine.
I can't say replacing the ect will help anything? The location is circle with a c in the picture, note the vin.

How do I replace the driver side rear transmission mount?
Front wheel drive or rear wheel drive ? You need a good jack , a floor jack would be best . Do you have Jack stands an a floor jack ? You need to get it up in the air a little so you can get under it . You will need to put the jack under the transmission an jack it up just enough to take the pressure off the mount . Un bolt the old one , put the new one in bolt it an torque it to spec.
Where is the voltage regulator on a 1992 Oldsmobile 88
Buried deep inside the back housing of the generator. GM designed this pile to not be worked on although there are now repair parts available for it. There is no way to test the regulator and you will likely destroy the diode assembly before you get it apart. Also, a lot of trouble is caused by the huge voltage spikes these units develop. It's very common to go through four to six of these in the life of the vehicle. The best way to reduce the repeat failures is to replace the battery at the same time. It will work fine in older cars and trucks, but as they age, they lose their ability to dampen those spikes.
Car shaking on start-up... slight temperature problem
Could be plug fouling out from leaky fuel injector flooding engine when you shut it down, then clears after running some, however, running hot is not a good sign and could point to head gasket leak. Many other possibilities too, but I would start with examination of spark plugs.
How hard to install fuel filter on car
Not hard if you have the wrenches & vehicle experience
I wouldn't bother if that is all your doing, have a shop do it
& be there to watch,no reason you can't stand under the car
& watch
