One of the fuses got hot and burnt/broke off and i cant put another fuse in what do i do its a 2002 oldsmobile intrigue final 500 series 3.5 v6
It is bad news - vehicle fuses are slow blow types and in the case of blade type fuses and the ceramic bullet fuses they blow at about double their rating and that means the circuit can be consuming an amount of current that is theoretically an overload for a considerable time before there is trouble and by then it is usually too late - the plastic is melted and brittle and the contacts have welded themselves together.
It isn't always an overload - we had a lot of trouble in the early days of heated rear screens when drivers would switch them on and simply leave them on even though the mist or ice had cleared miles before, unfortunately the fuses and holders simply couldn't take that load indefinitely and once the terminals had become dirty they simply heated up a whole lot quicker...
It is clear that section of the fusebox is useless. The only way a satisfactory repair can be done is by accessing the rear of the fusebox and either swapping the wires from the melted section to a spare section if there is one (it might be necessary to buy some special terminals) or you could fit an inline fuseholder ensuring the wires are extended enough to replace the fuse if necessary.
Looking for a wiring diagram of the Blower motor switch on the dash 1998 Oldsmobile 88
It would probably be hard to find the pinout for the switch itself. These switches are pretty easy to check with a multimeter though, using the resistance setting. With the switch in the lowest setting, there should be continuity between only two of those blades. One of them is the input to the switch, and the other would be the output to the motor. Turn the switch to the next position and check continuity again. There should only be continuity between two blades again. The one that is the same as the first check is the common input blade to the switch. Now that you know which blade is the input, you can check continuity to the other four blades by moving the switch knob.
