My rear latch on the lift gate of my 2004 mazda

I just solved this same problem with my 2005 this afternoon. My estimates n cost at a dealer were somewhere between $350 and $1,500. Luckily, I'm willing to ga,be taking stuff apart. First, clean out the back of the car so you have room to work. Drop the storable seats or take out seats if you can. Then, start at the top panel on the gate and remove it. It is on there with metal clips which should be fine if you give them a tug. The upper side panels are on with trickier clips. Pull the center before pulling the outer ring. Again remove the panels. This should leave the main panel. It's on with a lot of plastic clips that are easy to pop out, screws in through the handle, and possibly a couple of clips on the underside where you won't be able to reach. They will break, it's okay... They arent that necesary and cheap to replace. The panel will take a little wiggling and pulling to take off. Once it's off, make sure the light is disconnected and set all the panel parts aside. By this point, you can get to the mechanism. My problem was a piece of metal (old slug of some sort) fell in the bottom of the latch preventing it from moving far enough to unlatch. I was able to fish it out with a copper wire, but if you have the same problem, I would suggest a long thin needle nose plier, or a set of medical hemostasts. In any case, you have it a part and should be able to diagnose the problem from there. Once fixed, piece it all back together. Best of luck!

Small metal clicking noise when I push gas pedal

is it just one click noise per push of the pedal or is it a repetitive clicking noise that gets faster as the engine speeds up? if its from the engine, it could be a warped valve making contact with the cylinder head. not a HUGE problem but causes less MPG and less power. to fix that, (assuming you know which valve is warped) youll need a lot of time, a lot of patience, a valve spring compressor (looks like a C clamp,) different socket wrench tools, possibly some screwdrivers, and maybe a couple more misc things. procedure: youd drain the oil, take off the valve cover, detach exhaust manifold from cyl head, remove the cylinder head, use the spring compressor to tighten the valve spring down to remove the old valve, then install the new one, put the head back on, reattach exhaust manifold, put the valve cover back on (might as well replace head and valve cover gaskets while you have the chance) then fill the oil back up. also if you had to remove anything above the valve cover to get to it, reinstall those as well.

2004 mazda mpv engine racing and cooling fan not working

coolant temp sensor tells the computer how hot or cold the engine is so it can regulate the idle and fuel mixture, when it fails there usually is no cooling fan and you will have trouble starting the engine and keeping it running.

2004 MAZDA MPV P0171

The code is for fuel system lean bank one. That means the computer can not make the engine run rich enough to get the O2 sensor to switch from lean to rich.It should also set a code for the cylinder miss, the problem could be dirt in the fuel filter or a problem with one of the injectors based on your statement about running low on fuel. It could also be a low fuel pressure problem due to stuff clogging up the screen in the gas tank. Sometimes the problem is the O2 sensor but I doubt it in your case. You could try replacing the fuel filter and running some injector cleaner thru the fuel system to start with. The code needs to be cleared after the miss is repaired to see if the light will stay off.
