Approximately how much does a total brake job on a 2000 Stratus cost? I've had it 7 years and have never had any work done on them. It was a rental car and had about 26,000 miles on it when I got it. It has over little over 100,000 miles on it now. I figure it time I had the brakes checked.
if you just need pads and shoes or pads all around the parts should cost about 50 bucks. if you need rotors and or drums the drums will be about 40-60 a piece the rotors 25-70 a piece. if you take it to a brake shop it will cost you about 400-500 for an all around job. they aint cheap. if you can find a friend are a mechanic to do it for you it will be about 150- 300 . remember this is just a rough estimate. please rate this

I just changed the crank sensor in my 2000 dodge stratus, because i was having some trouble with that and after that my car runned fined BUT thats until yesterday NOW it won't shift into 3rd gear and the speedmeter doesnt move at all, and the computer reader said i had the code P0700 and i dont know what this means anybody can help?
(DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
Translation: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure.
P0700 Information Code
The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM.
This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes.
So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. It needs to be scanned with trans capable scanner to see what the trans code or problem is. You should have 1st, 2nd, and Reverse because the car is operating in limp-mode.
Since you said the speedometer doesn't work, my guess would be a faulty (VSS) vehicle speed sensor.

I have tried everything to pull the Crankshaft damper/harmonic balancer off a 2000 dodge stratus 2.4 L vin X. I broke two 3 jaw pullers it will not budge. The original problem was a broken timing belt. Any ideas or suggestions would be GREATLY appriciated!
Theres no trick. It has to be cocked or something from all the pulling. Try tapping it back on, use spraylube on the crank and try again. Good luck.

In order to get air out of the ABS modulator in my 2000 Dodge Stratus, the factory manual says: ''Using a scan tool, select ABS, MISC, BLEED and then wait until the scan tool says TEST COMPLETE''
I don't care about the actual bleeding procedure-thats well described in the factory service manual. I need to know where I can get the handheld scanning tool..
Does Actron or some other consumer grade scan tool company make a unit that does this? Or do you need some unit costing thousands of dollars? (ie being forced to go to a dealer)
Only the more expensive scanners will cycle the abs valves to release the air.

Hi, the premium system was just revamped and currently is having a little problem of not letting me post a solution to your premium question but I figured I would post the answer here for now until the problem is resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience and the time it has taken.

P0731 Incorrect 1st Gear Ratio
P0732 Incorrect 2nd Gear Ratio
P0734 Incorrect 4th Gear Ratio
P0736 Reverse incorrect gear ratio
The codes you have are all gear ratio error codes fordifferent gears. The most likely cause to see all of these codes together wouldbe an input or output speed sensor. If your speedometer does not work, replacethe output. If it does work, I would recommend an input speed sensor. Thiscosts about $25 and is easy to replace. The speed sensors are on the left side of the transmission. You willneed a 1" socket to replace them. Let me know if you have any furtherquestions with this van. We have actually owned a few of these, so prettyknowledgeable with them.

a 20 amp ignition fuse keeps burning out. I'm guessing either the ignition switch or the starter relay. Does a 2000 dodge stratus 2.4 dohc have a starter relay?
I'm curious, does this vehicle have an alarm/remote starter? If so I expect the installer didn't wire it correctly ... it was an all too frequent issue, with inexperienced installers we had .... I would first suspect any add-on device first (if any) ... In answer to your question ... I know it does have a relay (Starter solenoid is a relay and built onto the starter) As far as it being a relay or the IGN switch ... I'm skeptical.

on the passenger rear side i have had to replace the breaks, my wheel cylinders keep blowing and i dint know why? first i hear a rubbing noise , then the cylinder blows and I have replaced the brakes and I put a new spring kit on as well .. I am getting frusterated its been 6 months and 4 sets of brakes?? please help !!
if the brakes over extend the cylinders will pop, make sure you have properly adjusted the brakes, also make sure the emergency brake cable is working and not stuck partway on which will hold the shoes away from the cylinder.
the shoes should be adjusted so that you spin the wheel and it turns twice and stops.
