my caravan will not shift into overdrive and the speedometer quit working at the same time. also the fuel gauge is not working properly and when I select a gear a box usually shows you which gear is selected on the dash. now there is a box around all the gears all the time. any idea?
I suggest you try one of those instant download manuals. My brother ( a mechanic) buys it when he can't fix some technical issue He buys from www.reliable-store.com . A lot
of mechanics actually do this. Website is very good for this. Must try it !!

How much refrigerant does a 1999 dodge grand caravan hold?
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
This is probably more information that you wanted but... have to cover all the possibilities:
If you are servicing a system that has leaked you have no idea how much oil it left in the system.
DO it right the first time......
The proper way to service it is to connect it to a recovery & servicing unit. Evacuate and test the system for leaks, then reservice the system per the specs below.
1999 Dodge Caravan:
. Low side gauge (evaporator suction): 10 to 37 psi.*
. High side gauge (discharge): 112 to 210 psi.*
. Refrigerant oil capacity (without rear A/C): 5.00 oz.
. Refrigerant oil capacity (with rear A/C): 7.40 oz.
. Refrigerant capacity (without rear A/C): 2.13 lbs. of R-134a
. Refrigerant capacity (with rear A/C): 2.88 lbs. of R-134a
*Sea level and ambient air temperature of 80 degrees F.

Checked radiator fan 40A fuse & it is OK. The thermostat is OK. The vehicle overheats if I am not moving but while driving, the temp seems to be OK. I don't have a book on it, I assume there must be a temp sensor somewhere that would energize the fans via a relay but don't know where the sensor/relay is or how I could check them What is my next step?
Hi there: The engine coolant temperature sensor provides an input voltage to the PCM. As the coolant temperature varies, the sensor resistance changes resulting in a different input voltage to the PCM. When the engine is cold, the PCM will demand slightly richer air/fuel mixtures and higher idle speeds until normal operating temperatures are reached. The engine coolant temperature sensor is also utilized for control of the cooling fan.
The engine coolant temperature sensor is a variable resistor with a range of -40 degrees F-265 degrees F (-5 degrees C-129 degrees C).

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.
