When I had this issue it was because the seal has worn or flattened so much in the water neck that it was leaking. Follow the upper hose to the engine which will go to the water neck. I replaced both the thermostat and the water neck and this fixed the leaking problem. But, you have to fully burp the system of all the air, otherwise, it'll keep overheating or get close to doing it.

It's either a weak battery or a failing starter motor.

Best thing to do is to go to a local auto parts place (Checker/PepBoys/Autozone) and have them test the battery.

If the battery tests OK, then your starter is failing.

Your timing belt jumped. Need to have belt replace and timing reset with timing jumped hope no engine damage

The third wire is shorted out to ground. Remove the positive cable from the battery, remove the third wire from the positive battery cable. Re-attach the battery cable. Whatever doesn't work now is what that third cable powered up. Since you have to replace the third wire anyway this is a good way to determine what the third wire controls.

when the injector heats up this is when a problem can happen, the injectors are like copper when hot it expands and contracts cold, with heat and cold eventually they can break inside.

the shift solenoid needs to be swapped out.

Remove the radio and send it in for repair.

the water pump sould be located at the front end of the engine as it will be driven by a belt ...it should be located low down and to the front of the engine bay for accessibility.....this is a generalisation that ......generally...hold true. please see link below for more information on this matter How do you replace the water pump on 1997 Dodge Avenger 2 5L V6

Sounds like a bad distributor. Had you pulled a spark plug out you may have found them wet with gas after cranking. If they are wet the crank sensor is working since both injector pulse and coil pulse rely on crank signal. The distributors are known week points in the ignition system and used to be common when theses cars where still on the road. You need to check wiring first. After that would be the ECM. You need wiring diagrams/pinouts and a volt/ohm meter.

By holding the throttle to the floor - it puts the Fuel Management Computer in "Clear Flooded Engine" mode - it shuts down the fuel. The rattle could be detonation. You really need to do some troubleshooting / Fault Codes etc. Troubleshooting may vary a little depending on which engine you have. There are several reasons that could cause the excess fuel / flooding.

Under the cover of both the fuse box inside the car and under the hood there should be a diagram showing what each fuse or relay is for. I found several images at Google but too often it was NOT for the 97 avenger so you could get fooled. I was not able to copy the the one for the relay box and post but you should be able to hit Ctrl +P and get it to print for you. This one indicated it was for the fuse box. Hope this helps.
