how do i replace the timing belt on a 96 dodge stratus?

You may want to have a mechanic do this, not as easy as replacing an accessory belt. But if you decide to do it you will definitley need a timing light, 3 jaw gear puller, a harmonic balance puller and many other tools most people dont have in their garage

A/C builds up too much pressure and pops off high pressure relief

I have replaced the expansion valve the high pressure hose, high pressure switch, and the Receiver dryer While driving the car it builds up to much pressure (450# +) on high side and pops off the pressure relief valve
Only thing left is condenser but I would think it would be pluged and either work or not work some times car A/C lasts 2-3 days

how much transmission fluid does my car hold?

how much transmission fluid does my car hold?

Answer

I assume you are talking about an automatic transmission?
If this is the case then the torque converter is what holds most of the fluid. I am sure it holds at least for quarts. After you have added that much you can then start the engine with the emergency brake on and the gears in the neutral postion. Check the dip stick to see if any fluid is showing on the stick yet. If not then add another quart and so on until you see the first signs of fluid on the dip stick. Once fluid is apparent on the stick then you will switch to pints. The dip stick reads in pints unlike the oil dip stick which reads in quarts. So just keep adding a pint until the dip stick shows you the full mark. Remeber this is done while the motor is running and the gears are in the neutral positon with the emergency brake on. I hope this helps you, Raz

Sound like a bad front wheel hub bearing, if you can jack up the front end of your car and turn the front wheel's and listen for the sound or take it to a repair shop to have it check, if not taken care of will cause more damage to your car.

how to change the fuel pump on a 1998 dodge

how to change the fuel pump on a 1998 dodge stratus

Answer

The fuel pump is located in the gas tank.

You will need to remove the sending unit at the top of the tank.

To access the sending unit, you will need to drop the tank by removing the straps. It is a big tank, so drain as much as possible, and don't forget to disconnect the battery before you start.

Hope this helps.

My car - Dodge Stratus,

My car - Dodge Stratus, 2001, engine 2.4L DOHC started making a grinding noise... I took it to a mechanich and they said I had to change the timing belt and water pump... I did that and it cost me a lot... but the noise is still there... after 50 miles with the new timing belt, the car started smoking and smelling of burned rubber... I went back to the mechanic and he said it was the AC compressor... may be I didn't even have to change the timing belt on the first place... anyway... I don't have the money to replace the AC but the mechanic tells me there is no option for my model to bypass the compressor........what can I do??? Thank you

Fig. Fig. 4: Proper camshaft sprocket alignment for timing belt installation

  1. Install the crankshaft sprocket. Set the crankshaft sprocket to Top Dead Center (TDC) by aligning the notch on the sprocket with the arrow on the oil pump housing.
  2. Set the camshafts to align the timing marks on the sprockets.
  3. Move the crankshaft to 1 / 2 notch before TDC.
  4. Install the timing belt starting at the crankshaft, then around the water pump sprocket, idler pulley, camshaft sprockets, and then around the tensioner pulley.
  5. Move the crankshaft sprocket to TDC to take up the belt slack.
  6. Install the tensioner to the engine block, but do not tighten.
  7. Using a torque wrench on the tensioner pulley apply 250 inch lbs. (28 Nm) of tighten to the tensioner pulley.
  8. With torque being applied to the tensioner pulley, move the tensioner up against the tensioner pulley bracket and tighten the fasteners to 275 inch lbs. (31 Nm).
  9. Remove the tensioner plunger pin. The tension is correct when the plunger pin can be removed and replaced easily.
  10. Rotate the crankshaft 2 revolutions and recheck the timing marks. Wait several minutes and then recheck that the plunger pin can easily be removed and installed.
  11. Reinstall the front timing belt cover(s).
  12. Reinstall the engine mount bracket.
  13. Reinstall the right engine mount.
  14. Remove the floor jack from under the vehicle.
  15. Install the crankshaft damper and tighten to 105 ft. lbs. (142 Nm).
  16. Install the accessory drive belts and adjust to the proper tension.
  17. Install the right inner splash shield.
  18. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  19. Check for leaks and proper engine operation.
