there maybe a leak in the fuel line and it is not getting enough pressure any gas (fuel) smells at rear should be check as soon as found. check fuel lines on top of tank, they the first point to split. also at any joint that is metal in the fule line.

1995 to 1998 Rivieras had a problem with breaking wires inside the insulation near the speed sensor. It is the same pigtail connector as a coolant temperature sensor. It is rare that the sensor fails; most likely to fix with a new pigtail connector. They are relatively inexpensive. You will notice your transmission operating in 2nd gear all the time if the computer is not receiving a signal for speed. If your transmission is shifting correctly, then the problem might be in the instrument cluster and will need to be sent off to be repaired or go to your local salvage yard.

can you feel the car shift moving the trans into gear. Have you checked the transfluid level? too low no go to high worse. top of the grid guide on the dip stick. try trans medic from autozone or other car parts store. worked on my z28 that wouldn`t shift out of first. drove it like that then boom shifter fine.

check for pump or seal for pump leaks

Tune up time! A tank of bad gas can really throw a wrench in things. I would change the fuel filter, plugs, and run some top notch gas in it to help clean things out

Use a jumper to connect the positive terminal of the battery to the terminal L input of the alternator. That will give 12V to the exciter circuit of the voltage regulator and turn on the alternator so that it can begin charging. If that makes a difference, there must be something wrong with the input to terminal L.

Sounds like you need to get that replaced. If the metal that the mount is attached to is also rusted you need to get to a fabricator or body shop to have that replaced too.
