2003 Pontiac Bonneville - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I have a 2003 bonneville. tried to start car nothing, no click or anything. put in new starter/selinoid, battery, ignition switch. Checked all fusses which were good.
If it were a anti-theft problem the engine would crank over and start for a couple seconds then die ! PCM - engine computer disables fuel injectors , not the starter like ford PATS systems . You need to know how the starter system works before you can repair them . And replacing parts isn't the way to do it . You people on here must have money to burn . Make parts stores rich .The ignition switch is a input to the BCM - body control module or body control system , made up of Three different modules .
The body control system consists of the following 3 modules:
• The dash integration module (DIM)
• The instrument panel integration module (IPM)
• The rear integration module (RIM)
Each of the 3 body control modules integrate a number of functional systems under the control of a single module. Each of the modules are connected to the Class 2 serial data line; many control signals are implemented by Class 2 messages.
The DIM is wired to the class 2 serial data line. The various DIM input and output circuits are described in the corresponding functional areas as indicated on the DIM electrical schematics.
The DIM functions include the following:
• Control of headlights and exterior lamps
• Horn relay control
• Interior lamps incandescent dimming
• Lamps On signal with wiper/washer
• Power moding control over Class 2 serial data line
• Steering wheel controls
• Storage of the clock settings and, sending a message out on the class 2 serial data circuit in response to requests from other modules
Serial Data Power Mode
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle the PMM is the DIM. The PMM receives 4 signals from the ignition switch.
To determine the correct power mode the PMM uses the following circuits:
• Accessory voltage
• Ignition 1 voltage
• Ignition 3 voltage
• Off/Run/Crank voltage
Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has the tool and the factory service repair manual .
Shifts hard after driving a while
I am assuming you have high mileage and it is probably starting to wear out and will need a rebuild soon. You can take it to any auto parts store to get a computer reading and see if a transmission code got thrown up to the computer. Occasionally a relay will go bad in the transmission but if you're around 200,000 +/- 50K then you are in the possible realm of rebuild. Especially if you didn't flush your transmission fluid every 75k miles. You can use a siphon pump and pump out a quart of oil and put a quart of Lucas transmission oil to buy you some time and smooth out that hard shift a little bit(This is assuming its not completely shot yet). I had a chevy truck that had the 4l60e transmission, I could tell it shifted a little rough but couldn't do a flush because I could tell there was too much fiber in the fluid and the transmission would go if I flushed it. I put Lucas in it then at 170k, smoothed out the hard shifting significantly and I finally rebuilt the transmission at 230k. Its not a miracle in a bottle but if you catch the issue early, it can give you some extra mileage out of it like my extra 50K.
Why is there a sulphur smell and losing power?
Chris, Plugged catalytic's can cause this problem, some GM converters have a access plug in aiding the cleaning of them, but it could be older models. In park, emergency brake on ,rev engine to 3000 rpm approx. and have some body beat (not to hard as to damage) on converter with a heavy blunt object(2x4) and see if it loosen soot, carbon build up and blows it out tail pipe.

How to open cover of gas cap
First check your fuse then pop the trunk and use the manual pull latch on the drivers side in the trunk, possibly tucked under liner
2003 Pontiac Bonneville. Why do wipers stick on or fail completely?
I would suggest checking the linkage to the wiper arms I had the exact same problem also on 03 Bonnie my solution was a small aquarium air line over the vent then secured in the wiper arm then completely sealing every seam on the motor flex-seal works just fine if you don't have silicone sealer let it cure and at least for me problem solved. I had previously lost 2 motors in less than 24 hrs . Good Luck hope this helps
