The cross member has to come off. Either with a cutting torch or a socket, but it has to come off. The two bolts you can't reach can be removed with a long extention and a universal socket. You may need 3 feet or more of extention. Measure before you go to the tool store. You may also need help to line the socket up to the bolt. Good luck.
My truck does not start. I changed the spark plugs
is fuel pump working, turn key to on listen for buzzing noise in gas tank, no noise means need pump, or check fuel pressure with fuel gauge , fuel check outlet looks like a valve stem on a bike located on fuel line near top of engine.

if this is carb motor than it needs a manual choke that mounts on inside of lower dash, the kind you see on lawn mowers,,,push and pull.

well the lifter is a problem, your better safe than sorry cause if you don't tear it back apart and check the lifters then all that work you did is gonna be history.and you will be doing it again, i'm sure you know this. do this before you try to solve the ticking.
The truck has no spark,
Maby replace your distributer? Or distributer cap?
Do you still have your old Engine Control Module? What engine is it out of? and what year? If you are willing to sell the new one or the old one at a reasonable price i will be willing to but it!
Is it hard to do valve job on your own?
Well there are two tasks at hand, first is removal of the head(s) and second is the actual valve job. head removal is not too big of a deal with some tools and a marginal amount of experience. I would recomend you use a good machine shop for the head rework.There are tools and knowledge you just will not have easy access to.

can you smell raw fuel when the vehicle is running? smell the exhaust when its idling.. if it smell like fuel really strong, you need to replace o2 sensor.. the o2 sensor is what tells the vehicle the air/fuel mixture, thus if one is bad it will either run rich (uses too much fuel) or lean (dont get enough fuel) hope this helps.. also check out the fuel press. regulator if your vehicle is equiped with one.. the o2 sensors will usually kick the check engine light on.

The truck stays on as long as i'm driving but whn
My truck is manual and is idling rough at low rpms, it kinda surges and rpm starts to drop like between 500 and 900 rpm as well.
I have trouble starting it and stalls on me.
I have changed the alternator, starter, battery, battery cables, rotor, distributor cap, spark plug wires, spark plugs.
As for the dash light going out, mine does that too but on the left side (gas gauge side), I just usually apply a firm tap on the left side of the black part of the panel and it turns on.
Truck turns over but does not fire
I had the exact same problem. It turned out to be the ECU (engine control unit) On this model the capacitors on the ECU leak and ruin the Bord. Therefor the truck will not start or have problems. The ECU its located on the right side where the passenger places there feet. Its is a yellow/gold colored box.

I'm doing a valve job on my 1991 Mitsubishi mighty
The problem with the truck sitting so long with any amount of fuel in the tank is that it turns into varnish. You may have to drop the fuel tank to make sure it is clean. Also the fuel pump may be locked up from the varnish. Make sure all the fuel lines are clear before you reconnect them. You may have problems with the injectors too. I am guessing this is a fuel injected engine? If not, you may only have to clean out the tank, fuel lines and carburetor.
