the cam position sensor, does exactly as its name implies. It monitors the Valve Cam position and has a number of functions. mainly valve timing and ignition timing. As most engines are computer controlled spark instead of the old mechanical distributer, the ECU controls the timing of the spark based on information it gets from the Cam Position Sensor and other sensors on the engine. This is a picture of your throttle position sensor. It is located on the throttle body, where the air inlet tube enters the intake manifold. Simply unplug the wires, remove the bolts holding it in place, and replace it with the new unit. Hope this helps!

A true manual transmission is exactly that and has no connection to the dash board instruments, other than the speed sensor, which doesn't control the gearbox, but supplies the engine's ECU and dashboard with the relevant vehicle speed information. I can't think of any related reason as to why you should have a related instrument issue and gearbox issue.
