P0301/p0171

To clarify, code 171 is for the O2 sensor signal being too lean, but code 301 is for no power on cylinder one.Since both codes could be from low fuel pressure I would check that first. Its possible the O2 sensor is faulty so checking that with a scanner is the normal action to take. Its also possible the injector for cylinder one is worn out. Fixing one code may take care of the other code.

I have a 1998 mitsubishi

The 1,2,3,4 preset buttons on your radio toggle up only through the digits 0-9. The 1 preset button is the first digit holder, and so on for the 4 digit code. If you go too far just keep pressing the button, and it will go back to 0, and you can get back to the right number. If your unlock code has a 0 in it you have to press the button once to get to 0. It starts with a dash (-). This doesn't count as the 0. For instance if your unlock code is 0873, you will press preset 1 once, preset 2 9x, preset 3 8x, and preset 4 4x. Once you have the correct number in the display press the "CD" button, and it will unlock your radio. If you didn't do it right, it will display "ERR1" before going back to the "CODE" display. Don't mess up more than twice. After the third failed try things get a lot more complicated. Good Luck Tim

I have a 1998 eclipse spyder. The other day my boyfriend put a battery in the car that was higher then the one that was in it and it hit metal and shorted out the car while i was driving it. It melted

Wow, The throttle cable will be the next ground the system would find if it lost the main ground. It would be too small to carry the load and melt the plastic to the cable. Have to change that part.Make sure the ground from the battery is good to the engine,AND the body.If the engine doesn't have a good ground to the battery the throttle cable will take the load if the body ground is good. There should be a smaller ground that runs to the body somewhere, doesn't matter where,Also if the throttle is stuck wide open there will be no fuel allowedto the motor. Made that way so if it gets flooded, wide open is a "clear flood "mode.

Right turn signal on won't turn off

I had this problem and fixed it easily. It sounds like the turn signal mechanism is broken. Fortunately, the turn signal/headlight lever is a distinct separate unit that can easily be removed from the steering wheel assembly, remove 2 screws and the 2 eclictral plugs and it comes right off. Then get a new one at autostore for ~$80 or pull one off any 2g eclipse at the salvage yard for cheaper, better option and you should be back to signaling your intended turning direction in no time.

Convertible top will not work

Check out the fuse for the convertable top motors. See if something is binding against the convertible machine motors or mechanisms or the material itself. Pull it up slightly to free any obstructions and try again. If you can, check to see if the relays for the vtop motors are working and see if you are getting power to all devices including the switckh on the dashboard.

98Eclipse 2.0 nonTurbo 5speed 180,000 miles ,code PO301

The po301 is a misfire code. The backfire can be caused by a excessive amount of fuel, bad valve timing etc.
My guess is you have damage to an exhaust valve that may have occurred when you had the timing belt problem.A compression test will indicate if you have a leaking exhaust valve. The reason for the backfire is the exhaust valve is still partially open when the spark plug fires.
