  • Hi, I can help. Have you put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail yet to determine if you are getting fuel to the rail and if so to see if proper pressure is being maintained? For some reason fuel is not making it to the rail like it should and therefore there is not going to be the explosion needed to fire the engine off.

  • When you hook the fuel gauge onto the rail you will start the vehicle and the pressure should read 40 - 50 PSI or so. When you turn the ignition off the pressure should remain nearly the same. If not the pressure is not being maintained.

  • At this point it could be the fuel filter or the fuel pump. (They both deal with maintaining fuel pressure.) If the fuel filter has gone 15,000 miles since the last change then you might change it anyway as it needs it and it will rule the fuel filter out of the main problem as well.

  • One thing you can do is when you turn the key on (with no start) and see if you hear a hummmm for two or three seconds. This is the fuel pump engaging as it should. If this sound does not happen the the fuel pump could be bad or the fuel pump relay could be bad and then the fuel pump would not function properly. This could also be the problem now.

  • If you have any comments please leave them here and I will respond.
  • Hope this helps you out.
  • Thank you for using FixYa.

Check to see if you can hear your fuel pump come on. The fuel pump is underneath the back seat. Remove the back seat and turn the key to On. If you hear the fuel pump come on, you probably just need a new fuel filter. If you hear the fuel pump come on, try installing a new fuel filter. If it is the Non-turbo Eclipse, the fuel filter is behind the engine, attached to the firewall. I have the service manual and I have an eclipse. Let me know how it goes with a new fuel filter and if you can hear the fuel pump kick on. If you need more information on changing the fuel filter or fuel pump let me know and I will help you out.

It is also possible that your Fuel Pressure Regulator (located at the end of the fuel rail) is leaking vacuum pressure or leaking fuel through the o-rings. This would cause the fuel pressure to not build up like it should, thus not starting. I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/jeremy_69f3cc28d95bf514

I have a 1996 Mits.

I doubt it is the thermostat but it won't hurt to replace it. The water under teh passenger side is most likely the AC drain which should be happening. If you have no leaks on the upper and lower hoses the next place to look is the water Pump itself not circulating the water properly when the vehicle is at idle. It is natural for the temp to rise when sitting in traffic with the AC on because you have less airflow through the radiator. I would replace the thermostat and back flush the radiator under pressure.

Mitsubishi Eclipes 1999. runs good

Since you have multiple codes, I would check the wiring harness at the ECM. If you can get your hands on a pin out sheet for the ECM it would help emincely. Sounds like you are loosing power or ground at the ECM. This could be from the pins loosing contact or a wire could be broken. I have found wires that were broke inside the rubber coating. some days they work, some days they don't.
Repair as necessary. And for the pins you can pull the plug and use a paper clip or something small and push the female pins together alittle, it doesn't take much. Usually when I do the push the pins together, I just do them all, better safe than sorry.

Check the fuel pump relay. The fuel relay is located on the firewall on the drivers side in a bank of 3 relays its the one closest to passenger side.If relay has gone bad you must replace it.

Check the battery output voltage also(I think you would have done this already).
