1998 Dodge Caravan - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Why does a/c quit blowing out of vents under heavy acceleration?
You may have a vacuum leak in the system. The vent doors operate under vacuum from the engine. There is usually a vacuum "tank" under the dash that stores some vacuum to keep things stable under such acceleration conditions, since engine vacuum drops very low during those times. If there is a leak in the system somewhere, this vacuum bleeds off too fast and the blend door will retract to the default position, which is normally to the defroster vents. Once you get back to normal driving, the vacuum recovers, and the door will go back to where you wanted it.
How to fix seat in a 1998 dodge caravan
There is something preventing the seat from latching in the upright position. Look for a piece of cloth or paper preventing the seat from becoming fully upright.
A jumper box got hooked up backwards to my 98 dodge caravan I replaced the battery and now it will crank but not start please help
This can be really bad. It possibly damages the computer. Check if you set any codes. It is easy in a Dodge, you don't need a code reader. Turn the key to 'on' position and off and 'on' 2x total (not cranking the starter, just before that). Leave it on and the check engine light will flash out the codes. You read it ...on..pause on,on equals 12. The codes will start with 12 and finish with 55. After 55 it is done. Everything in between 12 and 55 is important. Take a paper and pen and write it down. Then post them here and we'll see what's going on.
Front oil seal leaks bad when engine is warm
If you have impact tools and access to a lift, you can replace the seal in about an hour. If not, then your looking at 4 to 5 hours and you will need help removing the the harmonic balancer and bolt to it. Let me know if you want some info on it and how you have to do it.
Why does my 1998 carsvan die out when easing off gas pedal
Found this...It is also called IACS (Idle) (Air) (Control) (Solinoide)....This is common on most TBI Dodge 360CI 318CI motors.. If you are not popping a code, you might get away with cleaning the IACS.. This solinoide controls engine speed when say you turn on A/C or step on the brake or turn the wheel in a parking lot.. It is all about computer controled idle speed. Also cleaning the throttle body may help. Another issue could be the battery. Have it checked out.
Left turn signal lights are not working
In my case the left front turn indicator lamp worked, but not the left rear indicator, although all the lamps would turn on with running lights activated, as well as the backup light and 'night-light' mode. The left rear turn indicator would not work with the hazard lights activated. I tested the combination switch (this is the left/right turn indicator switch you use when driving to indicate which direction you are going and is mounted/located on the steering column) and it tested O.K.. I had good continuity from the combination switch black wire, and resistance on the blue-white wire from there to the left rear turn indicator lamp, as well as good continuity on all wires going out from the left parking light fuse. Since the Haynes manual indicated that the flasher module was probably good if it made the tell-tale clicking sound, I was feeling perplexed. So I took it into a local shop that specialized in auto electrics and it turned out to be the flasher module. I was under the impression that it operated in a straight-forward left-right manner, but apparently it has a different circuit for each turn indicator lamp. So even if it is making the appropriate clicking sound when the combo switch is flipped, it could still be the flasher module. Obviously the manual leaves a bit to be desired in the troubleshooting of malfunctioning turn indicators.
Wont start fuel pump
Hi Louis, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles Mo
Louis, the best way to check power to the fuel pump is using a test light and probe the power wire on the connector at the pump, but you'll need to drop the tank a little to get to the connector. NOTE: Run a jumper wire from the battery negative cable to make sure you have a good ground. Touch the power wire while someone turns the key on, if the test light comes on the power is good. BUT, you also want to check the ground wire and here's how you do it. Move the jumper wire from the negative terminal too the positive terminal at the battery, next probe the ground wire at the pump connector, if it comes on then both power and ground are OK and you will need a pump. BUT, if one or the other doesn't come on then you'll need further assistance, please send your family and friends to my website and if you need further help click here:
