my 1999 318i e46 bmw is hunting badly on tick over i have replaced the air breather pipe comin from the rocker box and made no differance
try disconnecting the air mass meter sensor if it runs better then ur air mass meter has failed had the same problem

The air breather pipe coming off the engine had a hole in it. I replaced it but I still have problems. I think it's the valve connected to the pipe.
i have a hose that is broke on my 316i but i need a dwawing of my engine to identify the part .

I have a bmw 318is 1999. I keep gettin a metallic rattle from under car. I checked exhaust and anythin thats loose underneath,still cant find anythin.
Can you help.
Take a close look at your springs. My 99 Audi A4 had a creaking rattle that happened when I went over a speed bump or dip in the road, and it turned out the bottom of each rear spring was broken. I replaced them and the noise went away.
Another possibility would be the sway bar end links. Since the sway bar is worked pretty hard, the bushings in the end links will wear out eventually. This can cause some clanking. Look behind the wheel hubs - you should see a short bar or bracket attached to the hub at one end, and to a bar at the other end. The bar will go forward or back a short way, and then across the bottom of the car to the other wheel hub. That's your sway bar. The bushings in the end links (the short attachment bars that anchor it to the wheel hub) or in the body brackets (some cars bold the center of the sway bar to the body with a bushing in a bracket) could be deteriorated and allowing the bar to bang around on the body.
Finally, take a look at the suspension itself. Do any of the bushings where various parts meet appear to be cracked, leaking fluid, or gone entirely? There should be no gaps between any suspension pieces at the points where they meet. If there are, you're missing some bushings and may well have found the source of your noise.

I have a 2004 BMW E46 320i individual. Non of my doors want to open
with remote(mainly in the morning). i have to manually turn the key in
drivers side door! this only opens my door! Doors are double locked and
wont open from the inside! while im driving im always pressing the
unlock button on center console! this sometimes works and the remote
sometimes works!
What is the cause of this??? Its really
embarrassing to pull up at a place and my passengers have to climb out
of the drivers door!
the key seems to make the lights in the car go on but the doors stay locked...
please help..

I'm running a E34 Tds Touring with a similar problem, my rear doors and tailgate have dropped of the central locking circuit.
I have been told it is the Central locking Module a large black box under the dash that is faulty, apparently a common problem.
Hope this points you in the right direction,

i have a bmw318iSE e46 engine, the battery light comes on and the rev counter will jump sometimes just a little bit other times to 3k, i brought this car to a bmw dealership and they ran a diagnostic test on it and nothing showed up, i went to a few independent dealers and they told me its the alternator or the cam or crank shaft sensors so any help appreciated
oNCE THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON, IT MEANS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH UR CHARGING SYSTEM. mOST LIKELY THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH UR ALTERNATOR. u SHOULD LIAISE WITH AN AUTO-ELECTRICIAN

I have recently bought a set of m3 wing mirrors for my BMW E46 3 Series. I have tried to replace my old 1ns which only have three wires but my new 1'ns have 6. and I dont know what goes with what
your mirror control switch has 9 wires.,your drivers door mirror has 5 wires color coded .from your mirror control switch to your drivers siide mirror / 0.5 black .0.5 brown. 0.5 brown. 0.5 black. 0.5 black.
your passenger mirror wires are 0.5 blue/black .0.5 blue/grey. 0.5 blue/white. the passenger mirror has a ground cable 0.5 brown.
the passenger mirror wire 0.5 green/white connects to a 5amp fuse/F25 onto F31 5amp to a wire 0.75 green/yellow.back to the mirror control switch.

My son was in the car idleing (with girlfriend) when he suddenly noticed steam coming from under the hood. He got out and found water all over the ground. He called me to help. When I got there we were able to find enough water to fill the radiator only to see it poor out from where the engine meets the transmission. I loosened the radiator cap and carefully drove it home. The temp gauge never passed normal. Today I tried to fill the radiator with water only to have it poor out from the same place at the rear of the engine. All i can see back there is a junction block with 3 water hoses and some electrical connections. But that doesn't look like where it is leaking from. There are other hoses back there but it looks like you would have to remove the engine head to replace them.
Hi, on these engines they have a plastic elbow at the back of the cylinder head that gat brittle and break inside the head, it may look ok but it would be a good place to start to look for a coolant leak as this is quite common. regards mark.

The hand brake warning light is showing yellow when the handbrake is not on plus the the panel is showing a further warning of an exclamation mark within a triangle within an incomplete circle. What does this mean?
It sounds like the DSC fault that I have on my 320ci, apparently I need a new steering angle sensor.

you need the scanner to diagnose this problam if no scanner needed then it will be on http://www.vehix411.com all for free how to diagnose the airbag all in video and also how to reset it without a computer cheak it out it might help you
