1998 bmw z3...put a new battery in..asked for

I hate to say this, but I doubt the radio or battery has much to do with it.
This is just a wild guess, but I would suggest you get a voltmeter and check the alternator output.
It should be 12.5 at idle, but over 13.5 when reved up.
If the radio is weak output, it seems to me it is getting less then 12 volts input, or else it had blown internals.
Another possibility is that a door speaker wire may be shorting and draining radio power.
Hard to guess.

Are they easy to fit diy bmw z

Not sure about the bmw specificly BUT it is indeed hard, you need special tools and it's best left to a pro who will no doubt charge 1000 or more dollars to replace the convertable top.

The codewait light will not go off do i need to

It normally says CODEWAIT because wrong codes have been entered previously.

The usual solution is to LEAVE SWITCHED ON....UNDISTURBED for as long as it takes to automatically reset itself.

This can sometimes be many hours as the waiting time doubles after each wrong code. However, normally , it is only an hour or two.

I have just begun to

Hello! The #1 culprit is the Throttle Positioning Sensor...Mounts on top of the throttle body...Is a round, black, device with two mounting slots and a three pin connector located on the top right side...Wire colors are...Black, Brown and Red/green...Cost is around $55 at your local auto parts store...If you have the ability, it can be tested...Push an opened-up paper clip (two clips will be needed) Into the rear of the connector...One clip on the Black wire and the other on the Red/green...connect a volt meter to these two clips...+ on Red/Green and - on Black...Set meter to read 5 volts...Start the engine...Reading at idle should be less than 1 volt...About .85 volts...While someone increases rpm's slowly...meter should rise to 4 volts...The increasing voltage must rise smoothly...no jumping or erratic movement...If not TPS is defective...

Radio is not working, but is asking for a code. I

This code is pre-set by the factory, check your owners manual, it should give you the factor code before it has been set by the owner, if some one has set it to a costum code, you will need to take it to a dealer to have it reset. Most dealerships will do this for free so do a little research first!

How about "soft-top covering" 54318412054 in black.
Go to realoem.com and click :Enter"
Put in the info for your car (I guessed).
Find the section that has the part you want, "Folding Top Mounting Parts" for example.

1997 bmw z3 -

If the bat compartment filled with water then so did other things...I would think your motor has injested some water and has hydro lock (cylinders full of water)...you need to take it to the shop to confirm how much damage has been caused. You can also remove all the spark plugs then try cranking the motor which should spit the water out if in the cylinders (replace them too) and you may have other electrical components that have gotten wet and are malfuctioning (eventhe starter)

2000 BMW Z3. When it rains and my car is parked

I had this same problem - 2 things to check:
Most likely it's the 3rd brake light - check the seal on the inside (you need to remove the black plastic cover inside the boot lid to be able to see - this has 4 or 6 little tabs that hold it in place and break very easily, so take care as you remove it. I suggest using a blunt knife or similar to ease it out). I had mine replaced not that long ago and as far as I can recall they're pretty inexpensive.
Also check the rubber seal that goes all the way round the boot opening, make sure it's attached all the way round and has no defects.
Hope that helps!

How to fit a BMW Z3 hood ?

I found this very detailed tutorial a while back - I ended up just replacing my rear window and not the whole hood so I have not followed it myself so cannot personally vouch for it's completeness or correctness, however, it is by far and away the most thorough tutorial I found during my search!
http://webspace.ringling.edu/%7Edplassma/str/str.html

Also please note that it wasn't written by me, so credit should be given to the original author, whose name I can't seem to find! Either way, I hope you find it of some use.

The dsc on my 2000

Hi,

First of all, this could cause a whole bunch of problems in the future. So, better to get it fixed as soon as possible.

A maintained 6 cylinder M52TU/M54 engine should last well over 300,000 miles, and it's reasonable to expect many to see over 500,000 miles -- long past the expected life of the body.

Let me know, if need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

1996 bmw z3power windows

There could be plenty of causes for this. I would start with the buttons first. I learned quick that usually the buttons wear out before the motor. It's really a pain in the **** after buying a new motor and going thru the pain of installing it only to find out it was the 5 dollar button next to the shifter. If both are not working, then before you buy 1 button, check the fuses. If you have lost your owner's manual and do not own a service manual, e-mail me at [email protected] and I will tell you which fuse it is out of my Bentley Service Manual. (bently being the publisher, not the car company)

If the fuse is good, and you replaced the power window button and you still get no response, it's time to take off your door panel. Check the wires to make sure they are getting power at the window motor (if not you have a problem in your harness) Or you may discover that somebody really came on some hard times and removed your window motors and sold them! (its actually not that uncommon, it happened to me in one of my previous cars)

If your motor is there, getting power, with a good fuse and button, then I am afraid you will have to replace your window motor. Let me know how it goes or if you need any further help!
